PETA is full of bull -- or at least they like hangin' with people who are full of it.
The animule rights organization called us out for calling Morrissey out yesterday. You see, vegetarian Morrissey, who wrote the song/album, "Meat is Murder," chowed down at STK -- a hip steakhouse in L.A. PETA says it's ok for hard-core veggies to eat at a steakhouse because -- and we quote -- "Steakhouses have some of the best vegetarian food around." Oh yeah, gotta love that Kobe cauliflower! Maybe Morrissey gets a pass 'cause he's a believer. PETA big cheese Ingrid Newkirk tells TMZ she's got no beef with steakhouses -- she's been to the STK in New York herself. We're wondering if it's ok for Pam Anderson to shop for spandex at Fred the Furrier... UPDATE: Michael McGraw from PETA just called us to say he was upset by our story, adding, "PETA is fine with vegetarians dining at steakhouses. It's just like shopping at stores like Whole Foods that also sell meat, because it's good to show proprietors they can make money by selling veggie options." Um, OK. What about getting mashed potatoes at KFC? www.tmz.com |

So what, are they saying that most steakhouses get their beef from places that treat their soon-to-be-slaughtered animals well, so feel free to eat there as long as you don't actually eat the dead cow?

That being said, I take huge exception to the notion that steakhouses have the best vegetarian food. Not so! When I was forced to dine at Mortons some years ago, the only thing for me was a huge $15 plate of steamed asparagus. It was good asparagus... but it's not exactly a meal. My reaction to businesses or restaurants that disregard vegetarians/vegans is basically not to patronize them. If they want my business, they'll come around. But until then, they will just have to carry on without my (devaluating) greenbacks. |

Morrissey's Got Beef with PETA
Posted Apr 16th 2008 2:47PM by TMZ Staff So you know PETA was pissed at TMZ for calling the organ-ization out after we ribbed an animal rights activist out for eating at a steakhouse. PETA felt it was just ducky for non-meat eaters to eat at meat eateries. Turns out Morrissey -- who is a vegetarian -- wasn't actually at STK on Monday, but at the Belmont, the joint next door. Moz's rep tells TMZ that he not only didn't go to STK -- he would never go to a steakhouse! Meat IS murder. That kinda leaves PETA hangin'... So how do ya like them meatballs, PETA?! ______________________________________________ Bad on TMZ WORSE on PETA. THey have such a chance to achieve good if not great things in the world of the humane treatment of animals. Sadly, they, like the D's in seemingly the last three elections, cannot help but shoot themselves in the foot with this kind of BS. |
