American Idol once again

I haven't seen a thread started for this. I hate to admit that I haven't been able to get into it as in years past, probably because I wind up watching Big Brother which usually comes on the same time. However, I have caught Brooke White's performances several times & I like her. She reminds me of a young Carly Simon & she's plays several instruments, guitar & piano. And I just found out today that one of her musical influences is Fleetwood Mac.

Actually her voice reminds me more of a raspier Sheryl Crow. I don't see any Carly Simon in her at all. She comes across as being pretty 'meh' for me though... she has zero stage presence.

And the entire season is already shaping up to be a snoozefest for me... both of the obviousgays have been booted out, and it is pathetically obvious that the top 2 have already been selected: Carly Smithson (who has already had a flopped recording career and has had ties to Randy Jackson) and David Archuleta (sic?), or whatever that little twink's name is.

The only entertainment value for me this season is Amanda Overmyer. That girl is a divine mess!

Not only is she shamelessly trailer trash and has the most ****ed up hair, she manages to take any song, and I mean ANY song, and sing it in the same bluesy-mama style. She's already a parody of herself!

I have never been into American Idol.. until this year, I've probably seen 3 episodes, not in full. But it does come on at the bar and everyone starts watching, so it's kind of liked a "get sucked in" thing now. For me, it's like a train wreck.

The Lennon/McCartney thing was a bad idea, really. I don't know their names, but the girl who **** all over 8 Days a Week by turning it into Hee Haw Knee Slap time needs to go home. That was the most disgusting thing I have ever heard in. my. life.

Beatles songs are hard to cover. But I thought David Cook's Eleanor Rigby was pretty good.

Kristy Cook killed Eight Days a Week, my absolute favourite Beatles song. I agree with you Sarah 100%

I just dont like David Cook.

Brooke White looks like shes 40, not 26. and if shes so good at instruments, why didnt she wait for Americas got Talent? American Idol is based on singing, or so I thought.

I like Amanda, she has that Janis vibe. My mom makes fun of her hair though. :/

Carly shouldnt be on the show, shes had her chance, let someone else.

I like Jason and Michael for the guys though. Jason more so.

The rest...I dont even know thier names

Brooke White and Jason Castro have been my favorites. ("Daydream" was pretty great.) They could do an album together if (when?) neither wins the competition; their styles are pretty similar. Otherwise I can see either of them at home in a Gap ad if they don't seize the right opportunity when the show/tour ends.
I think Brooke does have a stage presence, & she's the most attractive contestant in a long time. (Not that Syesha looks bad either, but she has no stage presence or distinctive voice, IMO.)
Her style does remind me of Carly Simon's, though I agree that the tone of her voice is different.

David Cook is very good and might be my new favorite before long.
As someone who loves the Mac & tennis, I want to like Michael Johns (a fan of both); still, I find his performances solid but uninspired.

I think that a year from now, Amanda will be touring as the lead in Love, Janis. She approaches every week's performance like it's an audition for that, & I find it annoying.

Carly (the Irish woman) can sing, but I just don't enjoy her performances/look. Sorry.

David A. was so bad this week I was sure he was ill until the judges said he was just off. Also, I thought he might have done better had he chosen something sillier/peppier, like "Lady Madonna". I expect that all the attention he has gotten might lead to a backlash against him before the finals.

David H. looked like he was going to cry when he was voted off this week. I felt somewhat sorry for him, but then he went & said "Wow!" like he could not imagine it was true. Kristy seemed much more gracious about being on the block.
Kristy. I thought the vocal for "Eight Days A Week" was okay, but the band's arrangement was too busy (especially those strings) & had none of the simple catchiness one might expect in a country song.
