US judge sides with BBC in rocker superstar Mick Fleetwood case

2008-02-14 21:34:21 -

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A federal bankruptcy judge on Thursday ruled in favor of the British Broadcasting Corp. in lawsuit that pitted rock superstar Mick Fleetwood against the BBC organization over access to archived music recordings.

Fleetwood's company, Bee Load Ltd., contended that the BBC reneged on an agreement to let it release CDs of radio performances from the BBC archives featuring music by Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles and Elton John, among others.

Bee Load argued that the BBC suffered from seller's remorse after entering into a contract with Bee Load, which was set up by Fleetwood, Fleetwood Mac's drummer, and Fleetwood's accountant, Joe McNulty.
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge James Haines delivered his ruling Thursday as lawyers for both sides sat in the courtroom, the Portland Press Herald reported on its Web site.

Haines said McNulty was «obsessed» with taking exclusive rights from the BBC that were not part of the business agreement. Haines said BBC executives tried to make the deal work and did nothing illegal when they severed the relationship with Bee Load.

Bee Load initially filed a lawsuit in 2003 in Cumberland County Superior Court because the company lists Portland as its primary place of business. The BBC contended the case properly belonged before London's High Court.

A judge in England last year ruled in BBC's favor on most issues, but left a few matters to be resolved at trial that took place in Portland last summer.
The case ended up in bankruptcy court when Bee Load filed for protection under U.S.

Does that mean our Mick is short of cash again?

So that's why they're touring next year.

Bee Load? Where the hell did this "company" come from? Never heard of it!

As far as Mick personally being bankrupt again, I doubt it. It's a .LTD company, meaning the bankrupcy is limited to the company. The creditors that are owed money can only go after the company for the owed money and not to Mick personally. Unless Mick poured all his personal cash into the company, he's probably still sitting pretty. I'm sure he's fine.

I'm sure he's sitting fine, too. But that's not to say he wouldn't want to make enough money to start up whatever his next venture will be, since this one obviously failed. Just please, Dear God, shake up the setlist a bit.

Hey, Mick tried to get us SOTM the last time around, but he was overruled. Maybe if he turned on the charm with Stevie and gave her that dashing --- well, whatever he has that she liked so much -- he could get Angel back into the setlist. I would suggest IDWTK, but that might remind her of Silver Springs getting dumped all over again and then she would call off the tour altogether.

So what's the story behind Mick trying to bring back "Sisters Of The Moon?" And who overruled him? I've never heard this before!

Oh, before the second leg of the SYW tour started Mick was the one who told us that Sara was returning. Then, he made a comment that he tried to get SOTM in the setlist too, but everyone said no. He did use a plural pronoun like "they" or something, so I got the impression that it wasn't just Stevie who said no.
