Thumbs up Destiny Rules!

First off I have to say I love Christine McVie! She is the ultimate Fleetwood Mac member! That said, I have been listening to the song Destiny Rules and I think I cream every time I hear it, I haven't checked but I think I do! Stevie is mesmerizing to the point of complete excitement in a very tame vocal performance! I think she has the rest of Fleetwood Mac band members to back her up on this song, but for what ever reason she pulls this song I find right out into the wide open with conviction. I think, I know it is my favorite song on Say you will. It haunts me with the vocals and the music moves me to an ungodly rhythm. I think it's a song that right from the start beckons to be worshiped and yet keeps very up close and personal. A true under rated Fleetwood Mac tune, perhaps very commercial but the combination of elements that is Fleetwood Mac makes it completely desirable and for me the emotional roller coaster 3 minutes and 30 seconds into the song makes me completely celebrate a timeless band again and again! A true gem that I lift my hat off too Miss Stevie Nicks and the rest of Fleetwood Mac for actually pulling it off! I love this song!

For you - I was there and it was STELLAR to see this, esp. her performance at the end!

Also, LB's ending guitar work is great.

Wow, that was a great performance. I wish this song was released as a single.

That live video was great. Of course, that's the song they dropped shortly thereafter

I too think this is a great song, but man, the vocal on the album version is a definite acquired taste. With a different vocal, it could have been one of their best songs in years, IMO. Really the first verse is the worse, it kind of smooths out after that.

I totally agree to that! The vocals on this song unfortunately give Stevie her reputation for, well I won't give any amphibious or wolf references here but fortunately her band mates pull her vocals through this one with the music and make the song very convincing! I honestly love the music itself and also very much the lyrics, it is a dynamically structured song, I just wish personally there was a softer touch to it vocally, perhaps Christine with backing vocals or something (wishing), it would have been a fantastic contrast and would have been a hit single for sure but needless to say, I think it, for what the song is, it is very much the personal Stevie which I love! Great video post too! When I saw them live, I was totally bummed that the song was dropped from the second half of the tour, hopefully I can catch it next time!

I too agree this song should have been released as a single. It really is the only song on SYW that I feel could have done anything significant on the airwaves. It's probably the only tune from SYW that I totally fell in love with on first listen. I hate the band pulled it from the SYW set so quickly too, because it was pretty much the only of Stevie's songs from SYW that really transferred to the stage well.

Destiny Rules is also one of my all time favorite Fleetwood Mac songs. The music, harmonies, and subject matter of the lyrics are all quintessential Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks. This one song just totally wraps up everything I love about Fleetwood Mac in a neat little package. I don't think there has been this good of a collaboration between Buckingham and Nicks since Gypsy. This song just tugs at my heart strings like few others can .

This all makes perfect sense to me. However I always thought Running Thru The Garden would have been the albums savior.

I think you're so right. Christine was sadly missing on this album. If there was ever a time when FM needed her, it was with this album and yes particularly on Destiny Rules. I do enjoy Say You Will as a whole, but her vocals would have added the much needed punch and take it to the next level. I'm still mad at FM for not allowing her to contribute to the album even if she wouldn't tour. I say let her be on the album (all over the place on it) and tour without her. After all, we survived without Lindsey after Tango. Kinda.

Precisely. One of the very few tracks in which I prefer the production to the vocal.
