Default The thing about Not That Funny...early live versions

Listening to Not That Funny when they first started performing it on the Tusk tour I realized, IMO, that it was the best rendition they ever did live. First off, it was short -without the extended jam. Even better, Lindsey sang the other verse from the album version "Here comes the nightime..." that he omitted from all other performances. After that verse came the great twisted guitar solo that didn't last for 8 minutes. It didn't give the audience a reason to go to the bathroom!

I understand how you feel, PenguinHead, but I don't feel that way. Back then, I saw so many Fleetwood Mac shows that, really, the looser songs like Not That Funny & World Turning provided most of the only spontaneity I could find in the concert.

I can see how Not That Funny can be tiresome & even frustrating to you if you're waiting for Rhiannon or Sisters of the Moon. But from the perspective of knowing what's coming & what it'll sound like, you might have found the free-form numbers, which grew in impromptu jamming over the months, a refreshing interlude, like a hot sudsy bath, blue-green colors flashing.

i loved when they broke out with solos and a little improv... i often wished they would have improv'd more during sara too... that song drives me nutz after hearing the same chords over and over... hahaha i said "over and over"

I still appreciate the more improvised extended versions. But the earlier-performed concise/tighter version of that song is a nice alternate.

As much as I liked them at the time (mainly due to my "state of consciousness" being most likely affected by the same chemicals as the band), upon later listening via bootlegs & the 1980 live album, those "Not That Funny" jams STILL seemed contrived compared to the extended jamming that Fleetwood Mac did during both Bob Welch's & Peter Green's tenures. Those were "explorations"...Lindsey never seemed to want to let himself really let loose.
