Default Mick, Stevie, Rhiannon

This was an article in the Hartford Courant about Richard Aaron. Um, Mick, Stevie leaning against each other and singing Rhiannon?? Well, ok. . .

Actually, I don't really remember photos of Stevie leaning against anyone while singing, but during the Dance tour, Lindsey would get silly when she was standing behind him and lean back against her, to the point where she actually was supporting his weight and if she moved, he would have fallen on the floor.

Where Stevie is against Mick, tambo in hand, I didn't think it was during Rhiannon. I would expect that to be during either Don't Stop or GYOW. Anyway, Aaron's pictures are at: http://www.visionsofrock.com/site.html. Click the drop down menu under "Backstage Pass" and go to his name. Then move the knob at the bottom to slide through the photos. Here's the story.

When he wasn't dashing across the globe to shoot the likes of Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood leaning against each other while belting out "Rhiannon," or James Brown signing autographs after a Harlem show, Aaron spent his work life in his Manhattan studio composing album covers for legends like the Police, Aerosmith and Jerry Garcia.

I'm pretty certain it was "Gold Dust Woman."

To me it looks very similar to her performance of it with Mick and Bob Welch which is on Youtube.

Tempatation . . . FALLS . . . in Stevie's path.
Hesitation - WHY? She asks...

A very similar Richard Aaron photo is also featured on page 263 of Mick's first book ('Fleetwood: My Life And Adventures In Fleetwood Mac'). They were taken in 1983 during the "Rock & Run" benefit concert in Los Angeles.

They're nearly identical, but Stevie's head is tilted more toward the camera in the one from Mick's book. You can also see Billy in the background, on Stevie's left... but he's not visible in the shot on Visions Of Rock.

I did some googling to find more info on the Rock & Run show, and I found a site where that shot of Mick & Stevie was featured back in June of this year, as Rock & Roll Photo of the Month.

It was also accompanied by Richard Aaron's recollections.

Mick and Stevie - I have been shooting Fleetwood Mac Concerts since the early Seventies, before they became a super group. This is a band where each member has his or her own extremely individual personality. Since I was the New York photographer for Warner Records, every time Fleetwood Mac would come to the east coast, I would be the shooter. I had photos printed in their tour programs and in magazines. I got even closer to the group in 1981 when I covered Mick Fleetwood 's trip to Ghana West Africa. I was hired by RCA Records and Rolling Stone Magazine to photograph Mick's first solo album recording. For me this also turned into a album jacket shoot, Fleetwood the Visitor. After that, Mick and I became good friends, and we became better friends once I moved to Los Angeles. Mick would call me whenever he has something for me to shoot. He told me once that he used me because I did not use strobe flash during the show, which really annoyed the group on stage.

This shot is from a charity show called the 10K Rock and Run held at UCLA in 1983. Musicians would run for charity and after the event Fleetwood Mac played a free concert. I was on stage when I got this shot of Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood; the song was Stevie's signature "Rhiannon." She was at center stage singing and proceeded to walk over to Mick and for only a moment leaned against him. I saw the shot coming, positioned myself to Mick's left side and waited for Stevie to walk to him. You could even hear me talking to myself behind my camera asking them to please move together for me for this shot and to lean on one another. She did, and I clicked. I knew right away that I had the shot. One of the publicists came over to me to ask me why I was talking to my camera.

Richard E. Aaron has taken some of the most amazing pictures of Stevie, he manages to captures that essence that is her. Here is one that is so incredible to me:

The photographer is slightly wrong. It wasn't Fleetwood Mac & it wasn't billed as Fleetwood Mac. Mr. Buckingham wasn't there, even though the other four played, & a bunch of musicians played that thing. I don't remember its being free, either. The race on campus may have been free for viewers, but not the concert. Besides, how would you raise money for a charity without charging for the rock concert?
