Default Cool tribute to Fireflies

http://www.dagmardot.com/2007/05/thr...ies-live-1980/

Here’s another ode to Stevie singing one of my favorite songs “Fireflies”. Another pass me a tissue song. So much heartfelt emotion in this one. Close your eyes, drift far, far away and listen to the perfect harmonies with Lindsey. That lilting melody, Stevie’s crystal clear voice, Christine’s magical keyboard, Micks metronome perfect drumming, John’s driving beat all combine to bring tears to my eyes practically everytime I listen to this. Yea, I’m a softie. A big one. I admit it. No matter where I hear this song it always reminds me of what was going on in my life in 1980 and 81. It pulls my deep memories out better than anything I know. What is it about this song that makes me want to listen to it over and over again? I can never get tired of it. Every time I hear it it’s like I am hearing it for the very first time. Lemme see, what does Fireflies dig up? 60 cents gas, $225 a month apartment rent, Z-Channel, ford fiesta, honda aspencade, apple II, TRS-80, a new thing called an answering machine, only doctors had expensive radio car phones on 153 MHZ, tv dinners for 69 cents, sony betamax, a friend leaving for Rhodesia to be a mercenary, Devo, a new thing called a CD player and especially John Lennon’s death. Still remember the exact place where I was and what I was doing when the news came over the radio….. These lyrics most assuredly have a special meaning to Stevie but to me they mean something different, something deeply personal that was going on at that time. “Silhouette of a dream, treasured by the ones who hung on to it” Thanks Stevie, you’ll probably never know how much this song meant/means to me. It’s like a doorway to another world. To be the last to leave The last to be gone Stolen from the ones Who held onto it To be the last in the line Of the ones that live on Silhouette of a dream Treasured by the ones Who hung on to it Almost a breakdown Of our love affair The stiletto cuts quick Like a whip through the air Long distance winners Will we survive the flight Not one of us runs From the fire light I would love to believe I believe what you say In the drama of the moment Oh no there is no easy way No one ever leaves Everyone stays close ’till the fire fades I would love to believe I believe what you say In the drama of the moment For us there is no easy way No one ever leaves Everyone stays close ’till the fire fades To be the last to leave What caused the fearsome Divorce in the night There was no competition Well to survive do it right And you believe in the five To survive the distance Everyone fights Everyone fights And the fire flies What happened to my feelings When heartbreak comes in the night Some call it my nightmare My five fireflies Well like a sailing ship On one of love’s rocks Nooooo….. one… Of our love affair Like a whip through the air I would love to believe I believe what you say (Guitar interlude) Fireflies…. October 1979 After extensive touring and incredible anticipation for a Rumours follow-up, Fleetwood Mac released a double LP, Tusk. The LP sold over 4 million copies and had two Top 10 hits with “Tusk” and “Sara”, yet many critics felt the LP was too experimental and the tracks represented solo contributions, and not a band collaboration. October 1979 Fleetwood Mac received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. January 1980 Fleetwood Mac hit the Top 10 with “Sara.” February 1980 Tusk was certified platinum. March 1980 Fleetwood Mac hit the Top 40 with “Think About Me.” December 1980 The group toured again and released a live, double LP, Fleetwood Mac Live. February 1981 Fleetwood Mac Live was certified gold.

Stevie, Nicks, Fleetwood, Mac, Lindsey, Buckingham, Rare, Mick, Christine, McVie, Goddess, FM, Fireflies, Live, 1980

Awesome indeed!
Fireflies is one of my favorite Stevie songs and I never really understood why it is so underrated- I mean never played live or included in any other albums etc
