Things are looking bad for us right now - today was a holiday, but my boss just called me and said not to risk coming in tomorrow morning if it's icy, which it looks like it will be....the temp right now is 32, and it's gonna get lower overnight and thru Wed. Sleet and freezing rain on the way and possibly snow!!
I haven't gotten out of my jammies/sweats all weekend. I've got 3 fire logs left and I'm gonna save those in case I lose power...drinking lots of hot tea and just tryin' to keep warm. What's going on in your neck of the woods? Stay safe, everyone! |

My hometown Muskogee was pounded by the ice, up to 4" (!!!) of it and the whole town lost power for a time over the weekend (Still 9,900 left in Muskogee without electricity). McAlester suffered the same fate, and is still without electricity. The temp here is about 25 and will dip to 7 tonight, with windchills way below 0 (trust me, I was out in it today and it feels MUCH COLDER than the temperature makes it appear to be). Tomorrow night it will be even colder. Sadly, the 6 PM news says another possible ice storm could be shaping up for this weekend (Which could be worse than the 1"-2" ice/sleet we received this weekend)...At least Deb is off this weekend so she wont have to stay the night over at the hospital as she did this weekend (We live 45 miles away from the hospital, and when the weather is bad I drive Deb to work & she stays over in patient rooms saved for employees during inclement weather.) I can drive in the ice/snow/whatever, so I have no problems as others do...Hell, I was doing between 50-55 MPH today when most people in SUV's/pickups/hay bailers were driving about 30-40 MPH ( The only time you will see me driving faster than anyone is in winter weather...I am not intimidated by it.) As long as I wont have to do anymore transmission work in the ice/sleet like yesterday I am happy (Thank God my Dad was an auto-mechanic of a higher caliber)

My workplace doesn't observe MLK, but we did close because of the ice. Looks like we may be closed tomorrow, too. I've basically just been playing Sims 2 all day...though tomorrow I'll probably be bored as hell.

We're freezing too, California's farmers fear for the crops, etc. etc. It has been in the forties in the day, and late 20's/30's at night. Brrrrrrr!!!!

So far it's only raining here. And I'm praying that that's it. This weather had BETTER not disrupt my glorious return to college!

Rain, rain, rain. I'm so sorry for the other states, but I'm glad we didn't get hit with it. Light flurries in the forecast for tonight, but that's about it.

All the schools are closed tomorrow, including UT, which almost never happens. They're calling it a "conveyor belt of moisture," coming in over Mexico, until tomorrow evening. Since I'm gonna be cooped up another day, I wouldn't mind seeing some snow! Last edited by Livia; 01-16-2007 at 12:41 AM.. |

It's been the winter from hell here... we've had a major storm almost every week. In November we had the rainiest month ever recorded, in December we had a snow storm and then the worst wind/rain storm in 10 years... leaving over a million people in the seattle area without power. Last week we had another major snow storm... the temps have been in the 20s ever since... today is the first day above freezing in 4 or 5 days. I think this is the same storm that is causing problems in the rest of the country right now. Weird weather.

Well, so far, we have a dusting. It's still snowing, but they aren't predicting anything major. I had to bundle Sara up for the first time this winter. It's about 25 deg. with the wind chill around 15 deg.

Looks like tonight and tomorrow may be a little worse than last night and today. With our low temps, the roads (not just bridges and overpasses) are now getting ice accumulation, and the freezing rain/sleet isn't gonna stop until around noon tomorrow, so they say. We may get some snow overnight too. I'm getting cabin fever! I did go outside and walk around the neighborhood this morning, just after the really big snowflakes were falling, which was pretty, but it switched back to sleet after a few minutes.
No call from the boss today re: work tomorrow, but I'm assuming the same rules still apply, and I'll be staying home again. |
