Default Aargh!

I'm about ready to kill someone. They are remodeling the beauty parlor next door, and for the past 4 hours now they've been drilling holes in the wall right next to my desk. And never all the way through...they drill a little, then stop, then drill a little more, then stop again. So on and on. It's like effin' chinese torture.

I can't have a conversation, I can't take phone calls, I can't hear the radio.

I wish I could go over there and thell them to shove that drill up their ass, but hey, I get a discount there, don't want to mess with that.

I feel for you. We had weeks of that crap when they remodeled the tanning salon next door to our office. Hammers and drills and saws and god knows what else. And, of course, all that racket went over real well with our furry patients. That's okay, they got their due when the Subway restaurant on the other side of them decided to remodel.

I'll tell you though, nothing was worse than at the clinic I used to work at when they started developing the empty lot behind us. All that heavy machinery made the entire building shake constantly. It felt like we were having an earthquake all day long.

Hopefully they won't be there for too long.

^^
Oh, they will be. The owner stopped by earlier to apologize and said that it was going to take at least another two weeks to finish. Tomorrow I'm bringing ear plugs. Is that some kind of psychological disease, where repetitive sounds drive you completely insane? I can't take it when people sneeze a few times in a row either, just to give an example. Or when the water tap leaks.

I'm extremely sensitive to sound so I can imagine! A place I used to live is now surrounded by helicopter logging and big trucks coming and going (on land owned by the department of mental health ironicly!), so I feel lucky to not be there right now. I have trouble with the noises that come and go over and over so that you can't not be aware of them. The bane of my existence are big commercial lawn mowing companies who mow every week whether it's needed or not for an hour and the sound comes and goes over and over. They have gigantic noise-blocking headphones. I just hang on until they finish and then I can concentrate on work again but i don't even try while it's going on. And yes, I finally bought expensive noise-blocking headphones of my own.

I'm also very sensitive to sound and sleep with earplugs fairly often because of it. I find noises in the office very annoying and distracting - like loud talkers, they drive me nuts. I lived accross the street from a building that was being built and I had that same earthquake experience. The work they did, to put in the foundation which is basically in the harbor was SO LOUD. And it cracked my landlord's wall. I'm sure alot of other people had cracked walls as a result of all that force and shaking.

Yes, like that. I can't concentrate at all if there is any kind of noise. It doesn't even have to be loud noises, if it's continuous, I feel the need to bang my head against the wall. A phone that keeps ringing that nobody picks up, or when my cats are scratching their nails (which they love to do for 10 minutes straight sometimes) or as I said, when somebody keeps sneezing. I can't handle loud talkers either. There's a group of Turkish women (sisters and mother) that come into the store now and then and they hardly ever buy or rent anything, but they stand there debating things for more than an hour sometimes. And I don't know if it has to do with their culture or whatever, but they can't ever talk with a normal voice, they have to scream and screech everything. They're not even arguing, they are just talking. Oftentimes I've come close to asking them to please leave the store, but that's a bit rude. They are so annoying though.

well, I can relate. they've been doing maintenance on the floor above my office and I swear it's just like you described. drill for a bit and then silence and just when I get back to working good...drill again. or hammer or pounding of some sort. it is annoying.

hopefully you can make it through and not end up choking anyone.
