Couldn't think of a good title.
As we approach World AIDS Day (December 1), here is a way to help raise some money for AIDS prevention programs in Africa. Just add this movie's myspace page as a friend, and they will make a donation. http://www.justpressplay.net/news/mo...s_Myspace.html SAN JOSE, CA - 3 NEEDLES, Thom Fitzgerald's explosive portrait of the global AIDS crisis, is set to open in several major US markets on Friday, December 1, 2006, in conjunction with World AIDS Day. In order to increase awareness of the film and its important messages about the current state of the AIDS Crisis around the world, the filmmakers have pledged to donate money for every “friend” of the film on the 3 NEEDLES MySpace page. The film, which depicts three intimate and diverse stories of people dealing with the AIDS pandemic around the planet, stars Lucy Liu, Chloë Sevigny, Stockard Channing, Olympia Dukakis, Sandra Oh, and Shawn Ashmore. 3 NEEDLES presents a mosaic portrait of people all over the world who struggle to sustain their spirits in the face of loss. The luminous film visits the rice paddies of rural China, a plantation in South Africa, and Montreal's porn industry, to tell three separate yet universal stories from the pandemic. In addition to the Hollywood celebrities involved, director Thom Fitzgerald worked extensively creating characters and storylines with the people most affected by AIDS in rural Africa. In order to put some of the attention around the film's opening back on the people of Africa, the filmmakers and their sponsors have pledged to donate ten cents for every friend that the film receives on its MySpace page www.MySpace.com/3Needles, as of 11:59 PST on Friday December 1, 2006, the film's opening date. To provide an example, if the film receives 100,000 friends as of that time, $10,000 will be donated to support AIDS prevention in Africa. The donation will be made to the NSGA (Nova Scotia Gambia Association), a local charity supported by Halifax resident director Thom Fitzgerald. The group does extensive work on AIDS prevention in war-ravaged Sierra Leone. “Through various efforts, the film has already raised over $50,000 for AIDS charities. With this endeavor on MySpace, we hope to help spread the message of this film via the powerful social networking tool of MySpace and continue to support AIDS relief around the world, “ said director Thom Fitzgerald. “MySpace is all about making friends who live outside your neighborhood -- this friend campaign will literally help send nurses and teachers to Sierra Leone where AIDS education and health care is needed right away. So it really is about extending the spirit of MySpace friendship to a nation in Africa where they may not have computers yet, but need our friendship now.” On December 1, 2006, 3 NEEDLES will open in a limited release pattern in several major US cities, in conjunction with World AIDS Day. Wolfe Releasing, in collaboration with Covington USA, will work closely with non-profit organizations and community groups in a series of benefit screenings to help support local AIDS care in the United States. World AIDS Day was started by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1988 to focus global attention on the growing HIV/AIDS pandemic, and the day is currently managed by the World AIDS Campaign. 3 NEEDLES will also be presented at the United Nations on November 29th as the Opening Night film of the United Nations AIDS Film Festival. |
