This took me by surprise, even though he was 81. RIP, Mr. Altman.

I just watched "A Prairie Home Companion," and I loved every frame of it - even the Hohan scenes. I keep seeing a film he did about the last days of Richard Nixon (can't think of the name at the moment). I've been avoiding it, but I'll have to give it a view over the long holiday.

I love MASH, too, but Short Cuts is my favorite.

Aw... I loved his work. Nashville and Pret a Porter were two favorites. He seemed like a nice guy. May he rest in peace.

Yes, it's a sad day, he was a true artist, able to make a masterpiece after another (with a couple of exceptions...) Movies like Mash, Nashville, Short Cuts, The Player, Gosford Park, A Prairie Home Companion, will always be unforgettable worlds of real cinema.

It's a little odd that I have Short Cuts at home from Netflix and had been planning to watch it tonight. I guess it will be a little tribute.

I saw an at-length interview with him probably w/in the past year. He truly did seem like a real artist and his style was so wonderfully unique.

They honestly don't make 'em like that anymore... movies OR directors.
