Default Dark Shadows

anyone watch and love this show from 1991? it's a remake of the one from the 60s/70s. I was 11 I think when it was on and I have thought about this show all this time...15 years later. anyway, I just got the entire season on DVD and fell in love with it again. the acting is a little cheesy, but I love the story and the characters and the actors. I read that it was cancelled due to the Gulf War...which is why there is only one season.

DUDE! I love the 1991 'Dark Shadows'!!!

I own all of the videocassettes that MPI released about 10 years ago, but I refuse to buy the DVD set because they cropped the footage to make it appear widescreen.
Idiots.

yeah, the quality of the DVDs is not great. I'm hoping to get a new computer in the next few months (I stress hoping) and if I do, I'll burn you copies just for ****s and giggles.

and no bonus features.

Barnabus Collins - amazing all the trivial sh*t that floats around in my brain...my mom used to watch that show too. I vaguely remember it...going to kindergarten for 1/2 day in the mornings and watching it in the afternoon.

I always thot the premise (vampires in a soap opera!!) was outlandish but I knew quite a few folks that were absolutely HOOKED on that show...

yeah, me too.

you know what's been irking me? the fact that their name is Collins, they all live in Collinsport, but the estate is called Collinwood (no "S") - shouldn't it be Collinswood?

damn details.

and I always wonder what happened to all those actors...of course we all know Michael T. Weiss and Joseph Gordon Levitt, but what about Joanna Going and Ben Cross? although my favorite was Dr. Hoffman played by Barbara Steele...that woman was fierce!

I never knew they remade the show, and I have to check it out!
I saw the original one Summer (I was probably 5) staying with older cousins who watched it. I think the creepy aesthetic made a deep impression on me.

I loved both the original and the remake. When I was a kid in the 70s, it came on right after school and I was absolutely in love with Angelique, the witch who turned Barnabas into a vampire. She was played by the gorgeous Lara Parker who probably gave birth to my fascination with witchy women (next came Elizabeth Montgomery and then Stevie). I would get chills just from the opening credits with the crashing waves against the rocks and the creepy music! And the new version was EXCELLENT. They kept the exact storylines but had better scripts such as the moment they looked at Josette's tag on her clothes and thought she was a witch because of the strange icons that stood for "machine wash" and "tumble dry". Then there was the feature film "House of Dark Shadows" which was a theatrical release that was way more gorey. Marilyn the femaie vampire died in that one, which freaked me out as a kid.

And I can still whistle the tune from the music box.

Yes! My other car is a broom because of these shows, and of course extensive readings of Grimm's fairytales.
A little threadjacking, but you should (if you haven't already) check out "I Married a Witch", the Veronica Lake film that inspired Bewitched, and also "Bell, Book, and Candle".

I would love to, I've seen clips from "I Married a Witch" and wasn't Veronica Lake quite the beauty! Bell, Book and Candle? Never heard of it...but my interest is piqued! Thanks!

She was! And, she is a little more of a trickster than Elizabeth Montgomery's Sam—maybe a little more like Serena. Kim Novak is the witch in "Bell Book & Candle". Look for Jack Lemmon as a bongo-playing beatnic warlock.

I think I will put those movies back on my Netflix for the Season, and look for Dark Shadows.

The veil is thin.

ha!

I wish there was more on the net about the remake. I love it.

I have a friend that loves this show. Talks about it all the time. I've never had a chance to see it yet though.
