SO anyway I was wondering, specifically which Tusk tracks were Lindsey's shoebox recordings used on?

I'm not totally sure there is anything on Tusk that literally has a whomp on a shoebox for a kick drum. I think that may just be Lindsey's frame of reference. In order to get a bigger picture, you'd have to listen to his 1981 Innerview with Jim Ladd where he talks about this & demonstrates the idea with a hairbrush handle on the back of the sofa he is seated on.

The concept for Lindsey--& it's the single overarching concept of the entire album--is that he is attempting to subvert, or at least pull away from & then rethink, what he perceived as the overreliance on traditional studio recording methods & traditional ways of building tracks.

To put it more plainly, Lindsey was asking (rhetorically), "Why can't I play a kick drum with a hairbrush handle on my sofa?" "Why can't I play the bass line with a distorted guitar on the lower strings?" Why can't I create keyboard textures using guitars with bizarre mic placements?" "Why can't I layer backup vocals to simulate the roar of a jet engine?"

On Tusk, Lindsey was reconceptualizing the use of instruments, vocals & recording techniques, & in doing so, creating a critique of the entire monolithic style of hit radio in the late 1970s.

Lindsey was taking his music heroes' ideas further than even many of those composers dared take them. Lindsey & Kate Bush were both pioneering similar studio concepts at approximately the same time. Kate's "Tusk" was called "The Dreaming," & it was released in early 1982.
