Default Foods you cant eat now cause you had to too much as a kid

I know there are foods we've all been forced to eat as children that our older relatives made for dinner it seemed like almost everyday that you just cant put down anymore. It's like a nightmare that wont go away! Here's a few for me:

Pork Roast and Blau Kraut(Blue Cabbage). My grandma would always get pissed and tell me I'm not really German if I didnt eat it, but I never liked it.

Kielbasa
Liver And Onions
Potato Dumplings
Steak Tar Tar
Rutebega's
Brussels Sprouts

I loved my grandma to death, and she the same to me, but there were times when I'd be the bane of her existence.

Garlic and onions....Not because I ate them too much as a kid , but purely because I can't tolerate them too much as I get older!!! They do my tummy in these days...err..whats a rutebega???

Not that I ate a LOT of it growing up, but I did have my share ..... but I just can't eat Kraft Macaroni & Cheese anymore. And I have tried. I can eat homemade mac & cheese though .... ya know, like those Friday diner specials.

Fast food. Blergh. We were definitely Happy Meal kids, and then as a teen I would get a bacon double cheeseburger & large fry from BK every day on lunch during high school.

I rarely crave it now, and I probably only get McD's, BK or Wendy's once a month at most.

For some reason as a kid I could only eat toast if it was charred. I mean scorched black and full of carbon. And I could only eat a particular type of butter on it.

Now I can only eat toast lightly done and I don't eat butter at all. Burnt foods are very high in carcinogens so thats great isn't it?

On the opposite side of things I never ate any vegetables as a kid and I do nowadays.

I still eat too many sugary foods and thats probably a health problem brewing I think. But I'm trying to cut those way down. At least the processed ones.

I used to like cheese a lot as a kid and most cheeses make me vomit now. I don't eat cheese, cream, butter etc or drink milk. I must be intolerant to them in some form. Either that or I just really hate the taste of buttery/creamy foods.

I can't really think of anything except potted meat and vienna sausages

Talk about processed and unhealthy!!! But I couldn't get enough Potted Meat as a kid (BUT would also only eat the Libby's brand). Ewww....I don't even know what's in that crap...sheep's eyeballs, rat nails, pig uterus?? It's gotta be something nasty like that. I used to LOVE potted meat sandwiches - some of that with Miracle Whip. Oh man..I'm making myself queesy....

It looks like dog food in a more "human" looking can....

the words "food product" suggest you can eat it but it isn't technically "food"..

I could eat corned beef as a kid but not anymore.. It just looks wrong..

Yeah - you pretty much hit the nail on the head there. Oh, except it's more akin to Cat Food than Dog Food

But it's WAY cheap.

ham, like ham you buy for sandwiches, i love pork chops & bacon that type of pork & i love me some ham & bean soup in the fall & winter, but that nasty cold cut ham, my stepmom would only buy that when i was a kid & everyday during the summer months she would make me eat ham sandwiches for lunch~ it as all slimey & full of fat, i can't stand to even look at ham like that now, it grosses me out so bad~
also liverwurst/braunschweiger (*sp) i used to eat the crap outa that as a kid like thick w/ mayo, on wonder white bread, now just the thought of it makes me wanna vomit~

i WILL NOT eat at WENDY'S seriously i haven't been there in like 7 or more yrs, i swear everytime i would go there i would get hair in my food, i mean EVERYTIME~ we aren't fast food eaters all that much, i love to cook & try new things & i think it is so much more healthy~

No Mr. Noodle for me, or the orange kind of mac n' cheese. I wasn't a tyke when I had my fill, more like a teenager in my first apartment when it was all I could afford and therefore had it all the time. Honestly, the smell of either one gives me tremors.

Wow, so you come from a long line of rednecks? My family loved braunschweiger(sp also). I get it like once a year now, for old time's sake.

liverwurst sandwiches
fried liver and onions

... the two livers... can't do it anymore, never did it as an adult.

My daughter has a longer list than I do, because we ate a lot of these things when she was younger:

Tater tots
Fish sticks
Canadian bacon and pineapple pizza
Mac n' cheese
Frozen mixed vegetables

She was a happy meal kid too and still prefers drive thru food and any other kind of pizza over a good ol' fashioned home cooked meal. I won't eat any of those items now either.

I'm glad nobody in my family liked brussel sprouts. So we never had to eat them... ever. Whew!

My Mom was the Queen of Frozen food (like Swanson TV dinners)
Instant Breakfasts- Potatos in a box...Frozen Pizza, waffles, hamburger helper...or even worse tuns helper (I cringe as I type)
Anything that was quick (and processed to death) was on our table
Hey it was the late 60's and new "frozen food" was king!

YUCK
Now we (My husband and I) always eat fresh, When I go buy groceries, I never even go down the frozen food or "meal in a box" aisles!~

Funny, what you remember...
