Question Givin it Back

I've been listening to this a lot recently and at the moment it's my favourite on ITM. It has my favourite line in it "I tripped and I fell, I got lost for a little while. But then you caught be in your lovin arms, rescued me with your smile"

I used to think that it might be about her family but now it sounds to me like it's about someone who gets together with a person who they've known for a long time but just as a friend.

It doesn't have to be about her at all. I know she co-wrote it with Billy Burnette and George Hawkins but I'm not sure how responsible she was for the words.

What does everyone else think?

Gail

"Givin' It Back" is one of my favorites on the album. Those lyrics are also MY favorite lyrics on the album, maybe even among my favorite lyrics of any of her songs ever.

Hmmm...here I might disagree with you, Gail. I still think it's about her family. I know she does sometimes step into other people's shoes when writing songs, but I think this album is much more personal. Also, this song ends the album. I think it's a nice, little tribute/thank you to her brother/family. By the way, this was one of the questions I asked her in that Q & A. So, I guess we'll never know. Regardless of who it's about, it's a beautiful song.

You could be right. It's difficult to tell how personal it is to her without knowing who wrote the words.

It's a pity she didn't answer her questions then we would know for sure.

I wonder if the sheer volume put her off? I'm sure the questions could have been grouped together in general themes and then there wouldn't have been so many to answer.

I'll volunteer to do it as long as I get to go and ask the questions to her personally! (I think this is where I wake up!)

Probably...It sounds like the website administrator sent all of the questions at once(probably hundreds & hundreds of them) to her nephew & told him to take care of it. Supposedly, she was recording her answers on audio tape...that's the last we heard of it, well over a year ago. I think that the website administrator has gone AWOL. You would think that he'd at least remove the reference to the Q & A from the site.

You could go to her house, knock on her door & get those audiotapes that she was recording her answers. I'm sure you could find someone to transfer those tapes to digital format. Then we'd have the answers to the Q & A. All Christine McVie fans would be very grateful to you.

I honestly think she was disappointed with the sales of ITM, and just said, "to hell with it".

Yes that's a good idea. I'm sure I'd be very welcome at her house!

Yes you might be right.

I must say I do find it vastly irritating that they put that on the web site with the promise of someone winning one of her gold albums and then .... nothing. No explanation at all.

I mean why offer to do it in the first place?

And as Mary Anne says the webmaster has gone AWOL and the competion details haven't been removed.

Givin' It Back is a great tune. I just wish there were more like this on In the Meantime, instead of all of that funk guitar stuff.

She's probably made Duck a L'orange with the poor unfortunate creature by now!

A chocolate hobnob is a biscuit. Oatmeal covered on one side with either milk or plain chocolate. Christine mentioned in an interview that now at the end of the day she prefers a cup of tea and a chocolate hobnob to a glass of champagne. Since then I have taken any and every opportunity to get them into as many posts as I can.
