Default Is it just me?

Given all this hub-bub over a potential "private Stevie party/concert" in the Nicks forum, I begin to wonder:

Am I the only one here who simply would never go to such an event? Regardless of whether or not it's Stevie Nicks or the pope or Jimi Hendrix back from the dead, or whether I got to hand-pick the setlist, or whether I got to shake her hand or have her sign my ass... I just don't think I would ever even want to go to this kind of event, particularly at such a cost ($350 is the price being quoted for this particular Stevie party idea).

Is there anybody else who's just kind of scratching their head in amazement at this?

I couldnt bring myself to attend any event such as the "private Stevie party/concert". Even if they are able to pull this off, I still wouldnt want to attend.

The days of spending over $100 for any concert event has ended for this boy, Once the chances of a full blown Pink Floyd reunion were killed there went the chance to spend $$$ for a show. Will I see Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks/whoever related to FM solo-wise in person in the future? Maybe, Depends if any Ledgies attend and if I could find a decent ticket for about $65 maximum price...Otherwise I would probably "mail it in" and wait for the bootlegs (ala Stevie Nicks Dallas 2005 show)

So as I said, you're not the only one.

We've got about the same price cut-offs, Brian. I'm sure in several years as the price of everything keeps going up, I'll eventually end up paying $100 for some concert or other, but at the moment, no way.

$65-75 is about my Fleetwood Mac cut-off, too. Fortunately, I got to attend the Milwaukee Summerfest show on the Say You Will tour, and a lawn seat for that was quite cheap, well under $50, if I remember. Of course, the lawn was packed and I was way out in the back, but I don't especially care about watching Lindsey and Stevie's choreographed hugs and such, so it worked out rather nicely.

Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones/Ryan Adams & Keith Urban all for under $62.50 a ticket with each having a great seat (Keith Urban was $31 a ticket through Deb's fanclub membership in the KU fanclub) but Fleetwood Mac was ticket prices of $125, $75 & $80 (The $75 was a ticket a Ledgie was selling on eBay, Still a great seat near the stage). The $125 ticket was worth it to me at that time, Since it was FM's first trip back to OK in over 20+ years...but would I do that now, realistically "No".

But nowadays with our family medical costs (After receiving my MRI results yesterday it will get much worse before it gets better) I cannot afford to see any shows out of state as I did in the past, nor can I afford any tickets over my $65 price limit. I attend most shows by myself, There has only been 4 concerts where both Deb & myslef have attended: Keith Urban Sept.2001 ($7 ticket-We sat front row), Paul McCartney Oct.2002, Tim McGraw 2003 (Free tickets) & Keith Urban March 10,2005. Deb was more into those shows than me excluding the McCartney show since I am the Beatles freak in this family (She's a country gal).

Hell, Been to so many concerts in my life that the live in concert stigma has won off to me. Only band I would like to see now is Pink Floyd, but realistically that wont be happening anytime soon...However I would still like to see Nevermore, In Flames & Evergrey on May 25 in Tulsa (Cain's Ballroom-The best concert venue is the USofA. I mean they have EVERYONE from every style of music playing there nowadays), But with this cyst in my brain, If I were to hardcore headbang I could rupture it and hemorrage, So I will sadly pass on that show (Which sucks cause I dig Nevermore!!!)

If I were rich, or even middle class ( ) I'd go to all kinds of stupid sh*t. No, that's not true. But I would go to this thing. I mean, if I don't care about the money, why not go? If I didn't have to think about money at all, it would be just another random lark with my favorite singer, another excuse to spend mounds of my theoretical cash on something frivolous and adventuresome.

However, at my current rate of earnage, I would "never" go.

But there are other things I would "never" do. For instance, amassing collections of DVD's. I'm not going to watch them again, and I don't understand why people do. With a few exceptions, of course - there are a few movies I've watched more than once.

Had it been Stevie Nicks say 1981-1983, I'd go and I'd pay $1,000. As it is now, no way. I also find it rude that people expect to create her set list. It's fun to dream I guess, but damn, Stevie is gonna sing whatever she wants. Besides I have had enough Stevie encounters that do not make this very exciting, not to mention my disdain for Las Vegas.

I have a huge DVD collection. Like my books, it's nice to have on hand when friends wish to view. Also, I'm in the film industry so when I watch a film I look at many different aspects of the film: acting, directing, writing, lighting, sound, etc. So it goes deeper for me when I view a film, even repeatedly.

Sometimes it's just for a feeling. Certain films can lift my sprirts, make me think about things. I also re-read books, I listen to CD's repeatedly. Same differences really.

If it were the wild heart tour, I'd be all over it.

My mind don't boggle at the $350 cost either -- oh my god, considering what I spent on tours like the tusk & mirage tours as well as the wild heart & rock a little. I kept my broker in champagne & caviar in those days.

That makes sense, I guess. I have a lot of books, and I do read them again. So, since i do that, I guess I'm obligated to understand why people watch movies over and over. What with your "I'm in the industry" thing it makes even more sense. Also, I guess I don't really view films with my friends much. Also, I like to spend money on things to eat and wear and decorate with.

If Stevie announced a London date at, say, the Shepherd's Bush Empire, I would definitely pay $350 (about £190) for that, although I've never paid that much for a gig. But I do know kinda what you mean. The meet and greet stuff and the whole 'we can get Stevie to play what we want' is a bit over the top. I don't know, If I were Stevie I personally wouldn't want to do it. Meeting a few fans at a charity bash or after a show is one thing. Being expected to meet everyone in a Stevie-obsessed audience is another.
I'm not sure I like the idea that she's for hire either, like a wedding band or a party clown...

I'm not being cynical, I'm just being cheap! Also, the whole thing is just very far away from the way I relate to music/performers.

I don't think I'll amass a huge collection of movie DVDs, although television shows and concerts are another animal. Those are things I would watch enough repeatedly to justify owning DVDs.

That said, while I doubt I'll ever own tons of movies on DVD, it sure is nice to have friends who do...

I find the commodification aspect of this whole thing so fascinating! It's like everybody wants to purchase Stevie for a day and set her up in the corner and make her do certain things. "Make sure she sings 'Bella Donna!' Also she should twirl at least ten times, and I want to shake her hand and have her tell me how much she appreciates that I'm such a big fan!" She's not even a person, she's this mystical relic that everybody just wants to be in the same room with for a couple of hours. It's so interesting. Celebrity worship just intrigues the hell out of me.

But a party clown that everyone worships!

(I agree with you, though, if I were Stevie, I wouldn't go anywhere near this kind of thing. Actually, I think I'd feel kind of ashamed to do it.)

I don't understand the big diff of who books her for a concert. Either way she's getting paid, and either way she's singing for people. It's still just a concert, I don't really get the thing of being a party clown, or whatever. I mean, we already know that if you have enough money to book her, she'll play a concert. And isn't that how it always is? At least in this case she'll be playing for uber fans. A professional arena booker has to fulfill the same requirements to book Stevie as a regular person does, I would think.
Also, people always complain about her setlist, of course they will do the same here, and wish for more variety. If someone actually thinks they can control her setlist, that's another story, but no harm in talking about her mixing it up. It's not like Stevie has to do what anyone says.
Commodification? Well, people pay to hear her sing, so she is a commodity. At least her singing is. That's mainly what I care about.

How it always is for Stevie, or how it always is, period? There are lots of artists who don't play private or corporate gigs.
