Default Waddy and Brett at the Joint

Hi all-

I tried to post this in another thread here, but for some reason it didn't work. I'm posting about Waddy and Brett appearing at the Joint in Los Angeles - 8771 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles - at 10:30PM on Monday nights.

I've been a Stevie fan for...... well, let's just say many, many years. It was great to find all of you here giving her the praise she deserves. I had a boyfriend who was so into Stevie that I actually got jealous of her! But I got over it.

I just wanted to let you all know that I've been going to the Joint in Los Angeles on Monday nights for about 4 years - and the shows have always been fantastic! There have been rumors recently that Stevie might show up again soon - at least they're trying really hard to get her to come down. Wouldn't that be cool! I can't imagine seeing her up on a small stage within arms length.

Please come on down, you Ledgies who live near L.A. Waddy and Brett are always happy to say hi and spend a few minutes with people in the audience before or after the sets. They both sing most of the lead vocals and harmonies, and they really rock! You never know who might show up as a "special guest". I've seen Keith Richards, Joe Walsh, Donovan, Jackson Browne, Roger Daltry, Robert Plant and Chris Issaks up on that stage so close you could reach out and touch them.

I'll be there tonight - as always - and if any Ledgies show up, please come on up and say hi to me. I'm the one with Magenta hair who's usually dancing right in front of the stage.

If you guys want to keep updated on what's going on at the Joint, I'd be happy to let you know - especially if Stevie shows up.

A new friend from L.A.-
Nina

Hi, Nina and welcome to the Ledge!

If I still lived in LA, I'd definitely be into "hitting the Joint" on Mon. nites. Heh-heh...I can't believe more Ledgies don't go regularly...(Travis, don't you live pretty close to it?).

Yeah, definitely keep us informed!

Hi there!
I might be in LA, (visiting mom) in the next few weeks, and I would love to check that out.
I miss my magenta hair.

Hey Nina - welcome to the board . That is a pretty sweet lineup of past guests. Would have loved to see Jackson or Joe in such a small, low-key environment.

I have this crazy fantasy I'll go and Stevie will be there singing Gypsy with Brett and Waddy. All of the sudden she will lift me up onto the stage and dance with me in her arms and announce "Hey everybody, this is Lindsay!".

It could happen!

Thanks to all of you for making me feel so welcome here.

I really enjoy reading what you've all written at this forum.

Last night at TJ was superb! Waddy kicks ass on his solos. Last week I told him that he was "burning!" and he asked me: "Do you really think so?" Haha! He's so sweet! Brett sings solos on Led Zep and Beatles songs in a voice that comes from somewhere deep inside of him. And to see Waddy and Brett sharing a mic with incredible harmonies - well, it's like being in rock heaven.

Ragandbone- I'd love seeing you when you come to L.A.! You've got to get a night away from "mom" and come dance with us! Feel free to send me an email when you're going to be here. Why did you lose the magenta hair?

Tiff- Yeah, Jackson was "all that." He stood right up next to the stage in the audience looking up to the guys waiting eagerly for his chance to get up and join them. No "I'm too cool to get down" vibe coming from him. And once he got up on the stage, no one could get him to leave - not that anyone would want to! If he didn't know a song they were playing, he stood there banging on a tambourine with a blissful look on is face. Even Jackson know who's hot. I missed the night Neil Young showed up (rats!) but I heard he did a 45 minute set with the band.

David- The band plays all sorts of stuff. Here's what I remember from last night: "Like a Rolling Stone"(Waddy) "Connection"(Waddy and Brett) "Live Wire"(Brett) "Walrus"(Brett) "Ohio"(Brett) "Sweet Home Alabama"(Keith Allison) "High Maintenance Girlfriend"(Waddy's own composition) ....and lots more. They do a lot of Stones and Beatles songs. Led Zep. AC/DC. Neil Young. Warren Zevon. They even do some older stuff..... "Lucille" with Waddy and Brett doing incredible vocal harmonies. Every song includes a Waddy guitar solo - he has about 6 guitars sitting up there, and he uses them all. Brett plays either keyboard and guitar on different songs, and one night he was so into his solo that I thought his keyboard stand would fall over.

But........ The band won't be performing next Monday, May 1st. Waddy said they're going to Nashville for something - I don't know what? They'll be back on May 8.

I asked Brett one night if he knew who "Ledgies" were, and he got a big smile on his face. So, if any of you come, be sure to let him know you're there..... Or let me know so I can introduce you. The guys really get off on the energy of the audience.

And we can still wait for Stevie........ Maybe some day she'll show up again.

With love-
Nina

Aw, that's great. He's one of my favorites. Gotta love when an artist isn't afraid to go with the flow. I just saw Steve Miller with a jazz orchestra (technically I was working but watched). Not a huge fan, but like most people I know & love his hits. So it was just him on guitar, and a 13 piece orchestra doing jazz versions of The Joker, Gangster of Love, Fly Like An Eagle, etc. Kind of weird, but it worked really well. After they played everything they had arrangements for the audience wanted an encore, so he ended up playing for another 20 minutes or so... just kinda feeling it out with the orchestra on the fly. Thought that was pretty cool and respected him for not being too uptight to wing it .

Sorry you missed Neil... that would have been a fantastic show!

Oops..... Correction: Waddy wasn't going to Nashville, but to New Orleans - for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Did anyone happen to go to that show?

I know he wasn't there with Stevie. Too bad! It sounds like it would have been a great venue for her.

Hey, Jeannie- If you make it to L.A., be sure to let me know!

I'll get back with more info on the next show at the Joint after May 8.

Hey - I only just noticed this.
I am def. planning to get away from my mom, and from being mom. The plan is for Gran to watch grandson and let me stay out late! I really need to dance!
I lost the magenta hair after a trip to Spain: I got tired of the blond-reverse roots, and I decided 8 years of dye was enough. It took a long time to completely grow out, and i had to add streaks of other colors fro a while. I think I will just buy a long magenta wig, for the nights when I want that rock girl hair.

I wondered what happened to you! I'm glad you found the "lost" message.

I firmly believe we all need to dance. What was it Stevie said in "Say You Will"? ......... "If I could just get you to dance." Waddy and Brett will definitely get you to dance. The energy is so electric! I hate going to those concerts where everyone is so "cool" that they merely stand (or sit) there and bob their heads like those bobble dolls. Bands and musicians put out so much, and they feed off the energy being sent back to them. When Waddy really feels the energy coming from the audience, he's liable to throw a pick right at you. I almost feel guilty for feeling that wonderful energy every Monday night...... Nah!

About the hair - I've only had magenta hair for about 5 years, but I can't imagine getting rid of it. A couple of people told me that it was a turn-off, but I realized that if someone couldn't deal with my magenta hair, then they could never deal with the magenta in my soul. I have a feeling, Ragandbone, that you still have magenta in your soul.

Still dancing-
Nina

Hi all-

First a correction to my previous erroneous correction - Waddy didn't go to New Orleans last week, He DID go to Nashville..... to record with the Everly Brothers! He said he had a great time! He recorded and played with them way back when - might have been one of his first paying gigs.

It was so cool to see some Ledgies at the Joint Monday night! I radared right into you, didn't I? I danced a bit with Tiff - playing air-guitar in front of Waddy - and both Brett and Waddy were thrilled that you were there. The more energy we send them, the more they send back - but I still think we get the best end of it!

Oh, I have to tell you something funny Waddy said to me at the beginning of the night outside. They usually stamp your hand after you pay the admission price, but last Monday they didn't have the stamp pad so they gave us all those stick-on wrist bands to wear. When Waddy walked outside, I complained that I felt like I was being admitted to a hospital! He said: That'll happen later (or something like that) refering to how my heart was going to get pumped up when I heard the music. Yup - It never fails.

Brett played more rhythm guitar Monday night than keyboards - which is very cool as he's an excellent guitar player, he gets to strut his stuff center stage, and he and Waddy feed each other both musically and vocally.

A keyboard player who played with the Eagles (sorry, can't remember his name) sat in on a couple of songs, which really provided a wall of sound. Bernard Fowler (background singer for the Rolling Stones) sang the last song of the night "Jumpin' Jack Flash", and everyone was Jumpin'.

Waddy won't be there this Monday night 5/15 due to another project, and I'm not sure if Brett will be there or not. Bernard Fowler and Blondie Chaplin (both of the Rolling Stones) will control the evening of music. If Brett doesn't play, I won't post a review of the show next week.

Did you all hear about Keith Richards falling out of that coconut tree last week? I hear he might have permanent brain damage - I hope not!

Still Dancing-
