Hi guys.. this review was posted on Seven Wonders last night, but i see it hasn't been mentioned here yet, so here it is:
Stevie Nicks Brisbane Entertainment Centre Monday Night Reviewed by Alex Murdoch Stevie Nicks will probably rue the day she chose John Farnham as her main support act at Brisbane's Entertainment Centre last night. The iconic Aussie star, who performed for an hour and a half, ruled the stage from start to finish, performing hit after hit and pushing the crowd through the whole spectrum of emotions. "You rock", Farnham told the roaring, almost capacity audience. But it was the veteran entertainer who proved age has in no way affected his showmanship or his ability to belt out a tune. Dressed in a black suit and white shirt he enticed some of the crowd aged 35-plus to create an impromptu mosh pit in front of the stage. After bringing the audience to its knees with a breathtaking rendition of You're The Voice, they rose to their feet in a spontaneous standing ovation. Farnsy's on-fire performance was definitely a tough act to follow. When Nicks-also a veteran performer-took the stage in a flowing, black gypsy-like outfit, the first of many costume changes, she was the epitome of rock royalty. The 57-year old sulty solo chanteuse, who rose to fame with Fleetwood Mac, kicked off her performance with a rendition of the Fleetwood Mac favourite Dreams. She proved her rock pedigree, however with a powerful rendition of Rhiannon which brought a roar of approval from the crowd. But it was her touching version of Landslide which proved the highlight of her performance. As she sang the beautiful words three screens - one central and the others on either side- flashed a montage of pictures showcasing her life. But not even this stunning combination could live up to Farnham's dynamic performance which made Nicks seem somewhat lacklustre. There's a great picture of Stevie in this article from the Brisbane show.. here's the link for it if you want to see it: http://www.sevenwondersonline.net/in...ic,2735.0.html Last edited by LiquidBlue5000; 02-21-2006 at 03:00 PM.. |

I don't think Stevie is going to "Rue" anything. *rolls eyes*
But what I really want to see is that Stevie career montage during Landslide. As if I didn't cry about Stevie enough. This morning my radio alarm went off while gypsy was playing on the radio, and right after it was over, I burst into tears. Thanks for the review, Brian.

This review claims Stevie opened her set with "Dreams," though. Someone else said she started with "Enchanted." Can someone confirm which it was? |

From what I have heard, she started with Outside the Rain and then segued into Dreams as usual. My money is on that.

This reminds me of the review of the Wild Heart show in Oakland, either in the SF Chronicle or Oakland Tribune. The reviewer said that Stevie suffered from having Joe Walsh open with such a strong set and that her music was more "lightweight".

that particular publication known locally as the 'Courier Liar' is notorious for its parochial viewpoints. Farnham was appalling with his attempted humour via racist & sexist jokes, it appears the Courier Liar concurs with such neanderthal attitudes. From the opening note it was plainly evident Stevie was a much more professional, polished and prepared performer. The alleged reporter was either showing his admiration for Farnham in an unnatural way or be an imbecile (or both) to mistake Enchanted for Dreams.
This particular article confirmed the contempt in which I hold both Farnham & the Courier Liar. Not unexpectedly I have been providing Brisbane locals with the accurate appraisal of said performances. |
