Default Stevie News from Australia!

Hi Guys,

Unfortunatly I have to report over a terrible article printed in an australian
newspaper by out uninformed journalists, I am not aware if this is true or
not, as I was not able to go to the Alan Border Medal.

Todays Herald Sun printed an article about Stevie's performance and how she wasn't keeping up with the music and that she needed a teleprompter or a screen with the lyrics because she didn't know the words.

I have plans to write to the journalist or the paper for this report as they
don't even know whether this is true or not.

I believe as I am studying to be a Journalist, that Journalists should have their own opinion but not at the expense of great people like our Stevie.

The Article is available on the net at:
http://www.newstext.com.au/
I would have posted it all but there is a fee when searching for articles.

Kind of ironic that Stevie would be accused of not knowing the words to a song that many fans feel she could sing (and possibly has, circa 1991) in her sleep!

Thanks for the post, Emmaline.

She uses a teleprompter all the time, what's the big deal?

Exactly. I think she just always has it there as a security blanket, in case she gets emotional or something. She certainly doesn't rely on it - we'de all have seen her doing that by now if she was. What an ass that guy was for writing that.

Christ, the girl's pushing 60. She's entitled to forget things. I'm 41 and I forget my kid's names sometimes.

I'm almost 40 and with same problem!!

I remember Stevie forgot DREAMS lyrics twice, during the first show of THE DANCE (the recorded shows, not the tour), and Christine gave to her some words of support. Don't know if the story is true

I cannot imagine Stevie forgetting the words to her own songs. Perhaps back in the drug days, but not now. I won't believe it unless I see video footage.

I'm 34 and have forgotten my phone number and my zip code!

On edit: Emmaline can you get the email address of that journalist?

Also, I tried to find this article using Google News but could not. However, I found the below notable and recent Stevie mentions:

In a fashion reference
At the other end were collections such as Jill Stuart's Monday showing featuring a series of droopy black maxi dresses and coats that were more Morticia Addams than Stevie Nicks — dour instead of dynamic.
http://www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art...602080401/1006

Using her lyrics to describe sports (no kidding)
The Seahawks’ M.O. was, as Stevie Nicks sings, hauntingly familiar.
http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/spo...9?OpenDocument

On music that is essential to your life
4. "Trouble in Shangri-La," Stevie Nicks (2001): "She lifts my spirits when I don't think it's possible for them to be lifted. (Nicks) herself is an inspiration."

A FM fan, and greatly informed at that, on a political site
By far the larger of the two fan bases is the one that favors the latter (post '74) line-up fronted by the smart pop sensibilities of guitarist Lindsay Buckingham and the enticing sexuality of a chanteuse-turned-arena warbler, Stevie Nicks.

I saw the clip and didn't think she was unable to keep up with the music.

Admittedly, it's not as though she needs to keep her entire catalogue in her head when she performs fewer than twenty songs per tour and sings the same songs every night, some of which she's been singing every night for quite a few years now. It shouldn't be that difficult to remember these lyrics. But still, she is over 50, and sometimes your memory konks out on you, especially when you're up on stage in front of a bunch of people. There are plenty of other aging rock stars - including the likes of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen - who use lyric sheets or teleprompters as a safety net during concerts. It's a practice that's becoming more and more acceptable as more and more rock musicians head way over the hill, and it's a cheap shot to use it against someone.

That said, I really pity music journalists in the Internet Age. Write a single remotely negative thing about someone and suddenly it's on all the websites, and busybody fans from all over the world are writing you hundreds of angry letters. So this guy wrote an unflattering article about Stevie. So what? I doubt this one article is going to change anybody's feelings about Stevie, good or bad. She's been around long enough to know that it's not worth paying any mind to these kinds of articles. Just leave it be. A bunch of "You suck!" e-mails aren't going to convince this guy to run a retraction or apology. If anything, they'll just put him off Stevie even more.

Sinatra used one right up until the end. I dont think it's any reflection on Stevie knowledge of a song or not. I think sometimes you're up there on stage with a million things to think about and sometimes you might just forget.

So true and so relevant it had to be posted three times.

But seriously, it's not that big a deal. For crying out loud. I'm 16 and I don't remember what happened this morning. It's just a blur of swirling pixie dust and English class. Then again, you know what too much tv does...
