The following report is courtesy of PINK FLOYD fan site Brain-damage.co.uk:
"With the first show in exactly six weeks time, DAVID GILMOUR (PINK FLOYD singer/guitarist) has revealed the band who will be accompanying him on his On An Island tour - and a superb line-up it is too. The tour is to support his new album, which is released on March 6th. The tour, David’s first since the record-breaking 1994 Pink Floyd Division Bell tour, starts in Hamburg on March 10th, goes to North America in April and returns to the UK at the end of May. Since the tour was announced, there has been much speculation over who might be accompanying him on the road. With the recent announcement of Guy Pratt's solo shows a number of you spotted that he studiously avoided any of David's dates, so that gave a good clue! As far as the other musicians go, they are all excellent musicians... let's put you out of your misery and reveal all! Here's the band: David Gilmour, Richard Wright (keyboards and vocals?), Guy Pratt (bass guitar and vocals?), Phil Manzanera (guitar and vocals?), Jon Carin (keyboards and vocals?) and Steve DiStanislao (drums). Phil Manzanera, apart from a thriving solo career, is also ROXY MUSIC's guitarist and co-producer of On An Island. Steve DiStanislao has recently provided drumming duties for CROSBY & NASH (who both appear on On An Island). The concert set-list is still to be decided but is likely to combine David’s favourite Pink Floyd tracks with tracks from On An Island, in a two-part show with no support act." ------------------------------------------ Should make for a great solo tour IMHO!!! Cool to see fellow Floyd-man Richard Wright touring with David ![]()

DELICIOUS! Hope to get some tickets on eBay for Dortmund or Amsterdam cause I love Rick Wright! But why couldn't he get Nick to drum for him (well, I'm not philosophing about possible bass from Roger, so I'll stop now)

The tickets are so outrageous. Maybe it's because I'm not a Floyd fan at all, but oh. my. god. $140 per in Chicago.

And, Guy Pratt is the guy who "replaced" Roger Waters in Pink Floyd.
Geez...add Nick Mason to the lineup on drums and it is pretty much a post-Final Cut version of Pink Floyd.

Speaking of PF here is some more news that is very (Duh) obvious: PINK FLOYD - No Plans For Reunion HindustanTimes.com (www.hindustantimes.com) has issued the following report: Legendary British Rock band PINK FLOYD have left their fans nursing broken hearts by denying reports that they are on the verge of a reunion. The band's performance at the Live8 charity concert in London had left fans hoping that they would see their idols together once again but former band members David Gilmour, Roger Walters, Nick Mason and Richard Wright, in a joint statement, denied that the group had any plans to reform. "Nick, Richard, Roger and I are telling fans directly that this is not happening," Contactmusic quoted Gilmour, as stating.

Waters was the main impetus behind Wright being ousted during recording of The Wall, and then wanted to dump Mason around the time of Final Cut. When Waters decided that when he quit it was the end of Floyd, and when Gilmour and Mason decided to push on Waters sued to try to stop them using the name. Things have remained somewhat tense since. |

I think everybody was pleased with the result at Live 8, Roger showed his pleasure, Gilmour was too busy concentrating to show his emotions. I believed before the gig and even more now that it was a one shot deal. Pink Floyd are now consigned to history. It was a nice way to end after nearly 30 years of bitterness by all parties. For me personally it was both a pleasure to see Pink Floyd in thier most creative line up and also rather sad knowing it was a once in a lifetime experience. It will be a day and an experience I'll never forget. Gilmour has moved on. He will shortly be 60 and the pressures of working with Pink Floyd would be massive. If Pink Floyd announced a world tour it would be the biggest live act the world would have seen. I believe it would blow the Rolling Stones away in scale. (just think back to the Pulse tour in 1994, even then it was a huge epic tour). He doesn't need this. He's got a young family, a wonderful home and a beautiful wife. Add this to his age and the fact Pink Floyd would never record together again and so he's quite keen to work on new solo material and not the Pink Floyd "gravy train" Greatest Hits world tour. David and Roger were offered $150 million to reform the band after Live 8 and they turned it down. I think that says it all. They will not have the embarassment of being has beens touring for money. Pink Floyd remain different in their thinking. As they always have done... |
