Default Tusk as two single LPs vs a double album?

Now, I'm sure we all know why Tusk kind of, uh, stiffed way back in 1979. Double-diget inflation, high price, mixed reviews, so on.... What if it was released instead as two single LPs, the first in late 1978, the second in mid-1980? Would it have sold better?

Just for giggles, I've attempted to pull together a track listing for the two albums.

Tusk (11/78)
Side A
1. I Know I'm Not Wrong
2. Sara
3. Save Me A Place
4. What Makes You Think You're The One
5. Never Make Me Cry
6. Tusk

Side B
7. Brown Eyes
8. Think About Me
9. Angel
10. Honey Hi
11. Sisters of the Moon

That's All For Everyone (08/80) (Okay, that was a gag title, and I'm not that happy with this one because there's only two Christine songs on it)
Side A
1. Never Forget
2. Not That Funny
3. Storms
4. Kind of Woman
5. That's Enough for Me
6. Walk A Thin Line

Side B
7. Over and Over
8. Beautiful Child
9. The Ledge
10. How Still My Love
11. That's All for Everyone

Default perfect first song

Quote:
Side A
1. I Know I'm Not Wrong
I really like this as a first song choice. I always thought they should have used IKINW to open the album instead of Over and Over, and put O&O last on disc 3 side 2. I know it would probably mess up continuity because there would be 3 of Christine's 6 songs all grouped together, but IKINW is soooo much better as an opening song. Whenever I make mix cd's, it's always song #1.

Were the reviews any more mixed than they were for Rumours or Mirage or Tango?

"Honey Hi" is the logical opening tune for the album.

Here's the single LP Tusk that would've made Rumours a footnote in history:

Honey Hi
What Makes You Think You're The One
Think About Me
Sara
Over & Over

I Know I'm Not Wrong
Brown Eyes
Sisters Of The Moon
Tusk
Never Forget

And, then the dog of a follow-up album:

The Ledge
Beautiful Child
That's All For Everyone
Storms
Farmer's Daughter

Walk A Thin Line
Angel
Not That Funny
Save Me A Place
That's Enough For Me
Never Make Me Cry

Interesting picks there.

I've always felt that "Tusk" was the logical opening track. It would start the album on an offbeat note... giving the listener a hint of what was to follow... yet it also had a "radio friendly" vibe to it, too, so as not to totally turn anyone off.

So... am I the only who kinda likes "Over and Over" as an opening track, and as a song in general?

Over and Over is a beautiful song...but as an opening track? It really doesn't say much for what's to come.

I think that's what I like about it. You let your guard down and think, "Wait, this is the first song? Is this going be a double album of sappy ballads?" And then "The Ledge" hits you over the head with a frying pan. Bam!

Here's an idea for just a single album I think would have appealed greatly to the masses...

Tusk
Brown Eyes
Sara
What Makes You Think You're The One
Think About Me
Never Make Me Cry
23:06

Sisters Of The Moon
The Ledge
Over And Over
That's All For Everyone
Angel
Walk A Thin Line
23:07

I think these are the most 'commercial' songs that people generally would like upon at least the first couple listens...
For singles...
Think About Me - Sara - The Ledge - Angel - Tusk
Still I think Tusk is perfect how it is! I wouldn't want it any other way-
well except the extra SOTM verse and maybe the extra 'Live!' tracks

I'm perfectly happy with "Over & Over" in the opening slot. In fact, I'm perfectly happy with all twenty (?) songs in the slots they're in.

The album running list is too firmly entrenched in my consciousness for me to consider alternative (not alternate) running orders.

That's when you discover that it's going to be a double album of sappy ballads interspersed with cynical spurts of freaky spasticity.

See, that's the thing...about two days after I bought the album, I dubbed the songs I liked in the order I liked...and THAT's the running order I have dug into my grey-matter all these years. I don't think I've listened to Tusk in its entirety (in order) more than 10 times in the 26 years of its existence.
