Default Peace Sunday '82 Lapses/Memories

Hi, was wondering if i could maybe get some answers about Peace Sunday at the Rose Bowl in '82.. some Ledgie who writes interestingly, most of y'all do (there, i've sucked up, answer me OH and this is an incredibly long message, as it nears 5 am and i just re-read it and don't feel like editing, hope i don't make anyone livid with all the many, many following words, but if i do, i won't do it again......--well anyway, this Ledgie i refer to uses a pic of Stevie from Peace Sunday in their signature, and it got me thinking back to being there, and it's one of my least clear Stevie memories, tho i can recall nearly every detail about the '83 US Festival and most Stevie performances i've seen since teen years..so, what i remember for sure about Peace Sunday in '82 was that Stevie opened with 'Edge of 17' and i'm pretty sure she did a 4-song set, and i do recall for sure at the end, she sang very pretty soft, high harmonies on "Give Peace A Chance", which was sung by a whole bunch of performers as the finale, but i think had Jackson Browne prominently on lead vocals. I also remember Bette Midler appearing and her funny opening remark- "Look at all the people! The parking lot was crazy getting in here, i thought i was just going to the Swap Meet like any other Sunday here!"-- Bette sang an accapella "The Rose' and nothing else on her own, "because i don't usually schlep my band to swap-meets" or something to that effect. I recall Linda Ronstadt being there, and she being very giddy with laughter at some Bette comments at one point, but i don't recall much of Linda's set, but i think there was "Get Closer" and "You're No Good'' but i dunno....But it really shocks me at the lapses of my Stevie memories, 'cause i am sure at some Southern California event i went to in the 80's, that Stevie and Tom Petty sang 'I Will Run To You' together, and i had thought it was Peace Sunday-- but i was wrong, as Peace Sunday was a year before 'The Wild Heart' release, so it had to be some other show that had lots of performers.../ Does anyone know if Stevie's set was 'Edge of 17', 'Outside The Rain/Dreams' and then 'Rhiannon'-- that seems to be my best memory, but i also think there may have been a Petty duet in there that was not 'Stop Draggin'...... Random ramblings just cause its 4:40 am and well, trying to stir any memories-- I worked on Sundays and had to get the day off, at a H'wood Blvd phone-boiler room for a place called The Preview House, and i was then 18, and usually sat next to David Addelson, many years before there was any E! Channel, and he was a Stevie fan and talked to me about the Peace Sunday event, wanted to know every detail-- he was a trippy guy who would always practice his autograph on our 'log sheets' and tried to convince me that ''you know Stevie was giving the middle finger on the back of the Bella Donna album' and i said 'no she wasn't' and he brought in like 3 different pics of Stevie with her middle finger seemingly prominently "being given" and we all sat around laughing looking at the pics....Jason Alexander also worked there for a time, this was a good decade or more before 'Seinfeld' and he was exactly like the character he wound up playing, and seemed way older than most of us, but maybe was like 25, i dunno. Jason would go on and on about Meryl Streep, mad Meryl rants about how she was awful and had 'reb rabbit crying eyes' in her movies and used them in every role she played, and this was in '82 and we wondered why he cared so much about Streep..The Frolic Room was right next door to the job, (kinda low-life Hollywood Blvd bar then, but not AS low-life as The Fire Fly!-- real name, and not named after Stevies' song!) and most of the employees would totally get trashed during the 6:30 to 7 pm break, but i couldn't get in, but finally about a year later, Bob the manager in his 60s, let me in with the regulars, when i was 19. Is 21 still the legal drinking age in CA? It had been 18 in CT where i'd moved from, so i was bummed at no clubs (for a bit!) in CA-- Co-workers talked about gettin high on 'Christmas trees' and i was so naive that i (duh) thought they meant actual Christmas trees being chopped up to get high, which they found hysterical, but they didnt make feel TOO much like an idiot... I think it was speed. I don't remember for sure what Christmas trees were, but they were popular amongst the Frolic Room/Preview House set, which had many Stevie fans... i remember Rea, Tiger- who had like a '57 Chevy or somethin, David A, me, Morgan--who later died of AIDS. And that guy Oscar who said "' Storms' is the only decent song Stevie Nicks has ever written" yet later admitted to liking her- Oscar later went on to work on Whitney H's 'Bodyguard' soundtrack, in some kind of technical capacity, and made a mint off it, haven't seen him in like 21 years, but after 9/11 he emailed me to see if i had/hadn't died in NYC during the attacks! Ah, ramblin me. i can remember all this, dang, why can't i remember Stevie's set for sure?! Thanks for readin if any of ya hung in there... And no, i don't have any Christmas trees on hand at the moment, just Adderall, which i guess is basically the same. Who needs drug dealers when there's Eli Lily and pharmacists. LA in the early 1980s to late 80s and Stevie's influence amongst the kids/20-somethings (HUGE!) is a whole other thread i could ramble on about but won't.. Promise not to type such long, oppressive messages again. Nite

Love the rambling post!
I was not at the Peace Sunday event so I can't help you there.
BUT...the Frolic Room is one of my favorite places to go in Hollywood! Where else can you sit next to a construction worker, a drag queen, a Mexican illegal alien and a soap opera star? Totally love the Frolic Room! And the jukebox is awesome as well...

Sorry to trim your huge post. I saw Peace Sunday at the Rose Bowl. You're right it was a 4-song set: she opened with Sara, I Need to Know, Edge of Seventeen & Rhiannon. She got what I would call the loudest applause of the whole day & a standing ovation. Dozens of people performed, including Ronstadt, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Jimmy Buffett, Dan Fogelberg, Crosby Stills & Nash, Petty & Heartbreakers, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne.

Stevie's four songs are on audience-recorded cassette.

Stevie didn't do I Will Run at Peace Sunday, but she & he did this in New York at Radio City. But they did do Stop Dragging a couple of times in 1981 & again in 1985 in Southern Ca.

David, thanks so much for your reply! i see you have more than- gosh was it 300 or 3000 messages here on The Ledge, so "i give" and totally believe your account and won't insist that i am totally totally totally totally sure that 'Edge of 17' was absolutely the first song she sang upon hitting the stage. Is it possible at all maybe the audio recording you refer to wasn't in sequence?
But then again, you were there, so if not, like i said, "i give" and "you're right" ....but dang-- 'Edge' from Peace Sunday is so memorably etched in my mind forever out of dozens of Stevie concerts i've been to as the only time she ever opened with it.... I appreciate your response and may check your url to see if there's any audio of her really lovely backup vocals on 'Give Peace A Chance' from so many years ago Thanks, David!
