Default Scanner Question

I have been thinking about getting a scanner to scan lots of old pictures. Are there any scanners that actually do this and do it well without costing the price of a full tank of gas these days? Thanks for your help.

Don't know about the scanner, but I have an alternative idea.

I've seen some companies & photo shops that will do this for you (and even touch up and restore the pics) for a very reasonable price. You might want to check into those, too. It would definitely save you a lot of time if you have lots of photos.

Of course, scanners are a nice thing to have if you just want to have one, and with the service you'd have to entrust your photos to them. Just an idea...

good idea - I wondered about that. I was just thinking that in the end it would be cheaper given the amount of pics I want to scan, but I'll have to think about it. thanks for the suggestion.
