Default Bonnie Raitt

I have recently acquired her new CD, Souls Alike. I've listened to it all the way through twice and have decided that I don't like it as much as Silver Lining, but I still think it's pretty good.

Anywhoozle...I'm not sure how many really big Bonnie fans there are here, but I'm awfully, awfully bored and thought I would share my favorite and non-favorite albums of hers and mayhaps get others' opinions on these.

Sew...

My favorites:

Bonnie Raitt - her 1971 debut. I really like her first three albums a lot...she wrote several of her own songs on the first two, and as far as I know, didn't write any again until Nick of Time. Which is strange. Anyway...the first one is her most blues-influenced, I think.

Give It Up - Still pretty bluesy, and lots of slide guitar, but she was moving ever-so-slightly into more of a '70s singer/songwriter format, evidenced by the cover of Jackson Browne's "Under the Falling Sky." This one also has "Love Has No Pride." I still can't choose between her version and Linda Ronstadt's.

Takin' My Time - I think I read somewhere that this was Bonnie's favorite of her own albums. I really like it, even though the Calypso Rose song is a little out of place. Her version of Randy Newman's "Guilty" is definitive, IMO.

Green Light - She did a lot of slick crap in between Takin' My Time (from 1973) and this album, from 1982. She rocks on this one, even though it has a very New Wave-y production.

Nick of Time - The comeback. I think this will always be my favorite album of hers...it's not as gritty as her early stuff, but there's definitely a lot of blues feeling, and lots of slide guitar.

Fundamental - I like the fact that she got a different producer(s) for this album. I know some people hate this one, but it's probably my favorite after Nick of Time. Lots of blues, lots of slide guitar.

Silver Lining - Didn't know what to expect when this came out...but I was pleasantly surprised. Very rollicking. And I love the David Gray cover.

So-so:

Luck of the Draw - I can't really hate an album with "I Can't Make You Love Me," but it's a little too similar to Nick of Time, only not quite as good. The presence of ICMYLM notwithstanding.

Souls Alike - I don't think this'll be one of my favorites, but it's good. The only song that grates on my nerves is Trinkets. It's too trite (and for me to say that, you know it's bad), and she kind of talk-sings through it, which I don't really like. Other than that, I enjoy this album.

Don't really care for:

Sweet Forgiveness - The songs on this are just kind of "blah." Very middle-of-the road, not much blues at all. "Runaway" is a great track, as is "About to Make Me Leave Home," and "Louise" is a heartbreaker. Other than those...the songs are all just kind of "blah." Very, very bland.

Thoughts? Comments? Humor me, please...I'm really bored

My favorite is Longing In Their Hearts. I have Fundamental too but it's just not as tight a record as Longing.

I loved Green Light.

I also love any record that has a song that begins with "Hey - Shut up"

I love BR - her music and lyrics are amazing.

Bonnie is one of those artists I would be more into if I had the time. I really like her, but I already have 3 bands that I am very passionate about, Fleetwood Mac, The Sundays, and The Stereophonics. So I just have a cursory interest in Bonnie Raitt. I definitely enjoy whenever one of her songs comesa on the radio though.

Just three? Heh. I have about half a dozen. It's weird to read about everyone's music preferences outside of Fleetwood Mac. Everyone seems to be into really hard rock stuff (like Led Zeppelin & The Who...how many ways can you say "yuck"? ). FM & Tom Petty are about as hard as I go.

I have so many different bands I am into that I lost count...The only time I dont have music playing is never (Yes, music plays when I sleep...Which isnt often due to pain induced insomnia.)

Oh, I am into abso-frikkin-lutely brutal stuff (Kinda like melodic grind-core or progressive thrash) which is as hard as music can get...but I can also toss on Stevie/Fleetwood Mac in a heartsbeat along with the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen & U2.

I had someone call me "musically schizophrenic"...Yeah, that tag fits me to a "T".

I've been told my band interests are pretty interesting too. I just decide that 3 was enough for me. Otherwise it just gets to be too much for me, but to each their own right?

Red face

I like her new album better than Silver Lining. The new single "I Will Not Be Broken" is very tight. And the last song on the album about the "Bed I've Made"...whew...I shed a few tears on that one.
