I watched a little bit of "The Thief of Baghdad" earlier and it must have been ages since I've seen it last. I didn't even remember much of it, which is a shame because it's a beautiful movie. Any idea if it's on DVD?

I thought we were talking about the chairman of the FCC.

Oh, piss on the erudite ****!

Michael Powell was a really cool director who is revered as an auteur with a strongly visual imagination. He made a bunch of movies with his co-scenarist Emeric Pressburger, including "The Red Shoes," "I Know Where I'm Going," "The Wild Heart," "The Life & Death of Colonel Blimp," "The Tales of Hoffmann," "A Matter of Life & Death," "Black Narcissus" & "The Thief of Baghdad."

Many of his films are visual treats, with arresting use of Technicolor, strong compositions & a storybook illustration feel.

One of his movies, "The Wild Heart," is about a gypsy girl who roams the moors & whose life is destroyed by her illusions & her superstitions. Sound familiar?

TCM has more info on him & on the films it's going to show:

Irishgirl, check out the movies of Michael Powell!

It was out on Image for awhile, but I'm not sure whether it's still in print!

I have the Criterion Powell/Pressburger movies. I saved up for them! "Black Narcissus" was remastered by true artists.
