Default Tornadoes

I remember back in 1996 when I was driving between Amarillo and Lubbock Texas I saw this huge tornado off in the distance, like an f4. Who else has actually seen one?

of "Tornado alley" so I see tornadoes on a very regular basis (I am fastinated with 'em actually), And on May 3,1999 I watched as the largest catergorized tornado in history of the world (The wind speed was measured over 318MPH, An F5 has maximum speeds on 316...Thus the May 3rd tornado was 'off-the-scale") tore a 44 mile path (Up to a mile wide in some places) from just North of Chickasha (Where we both work) to the eastern side of the Oklahoma City metro.

The tornado took houses from their foundations and left just the slabs of concrete...Anything/anyone in those houses never had a chance, You had to be literally underground to have stood a chance. If I remember right 56 people died that day....The town of Bridge Creek took a direct hit (As did the city of Moore...Which 2 years later suffered another direct hit), The whole town was literally wiped off the map that day.

I never worry about hurricanes in comparison to what damage the wind speeds of a tornado can do in mere moments compared to the hours/days it takes a hurricane.

i live in "tornado alley" also & in 1975, there was a massive tornado in omaha where i live~ we have the nation's largest furniture store called nebraska furniture mart, & it wiped it out & the entire street it was on, it was like what you see on t.v. or the movies almost surreal, we were in our basemant bathroom which was way under ground & the tornado hit our house~ i looked up from being under the sink & the room above me was gone~ scariest thing EVAH!!!~

I've seen the funnel clouds off in the distance but I've never actually seen one touch down.

I slept through one ! well almost..I had worked midnight shift and was sleeping that morning..I woke up because it was way way to quite in the house..no husband or daughter to be heard.I got up and went to the window and the sky was pea green and a neighbors swimming pool was flying in the air over top of our garage..freaky..my husband and daughter were in a closet hiding..(we didn;t have a basement)..the damage afterward was wild ..a tree went through a neighbors living room roof another through a car..the sidewalks were up in the air and folded like accoridians...we went without power for a week..I remember people were selling bags of ice for like ten bucks.

Unhappy Terrified of tornadoes

I remember one when I was little (maybe 4 or 5). My dad was at work (he worked nights then) and my mom and I got in our tub with a mattress over our head. Our neighbors down the street had the tree in their front yard totally uprooted.

In May 2000, a tornado hit Fort Worth and I remember it like it was yesterday. I was at work (with my evil boss...and I kept saying "Please God, don't let me die with her!!! LOL) getting in some overtime, it was around 5PM or something and I looked out the window to see the sky turning green, purple, red, orange, yellow and pitch black...I knew something was comin'. My dad came and picked me up and I prayed for us to get home safe. It hit downtown with a vengence.

That tornado took out my son-in-law's parents house (for the SECOND time). Thank goodness they all lived to tell about it. I had one about 2 miles down the road, but it didn't touch our house.
