Default Robertson: U.S. should 'take out' Venezuela's Chavez

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/23/rob...vez/index.html

Christian broadcaster says 'cheaper than starting a war'

CNN) -- Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson has called for the United States to assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, calling him "a terrific danger" bent on exporting Communism and Islamic extremism across the Americas.

"If he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it," Robertson told viewers on his "The 700 Club" show Monday. "It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war."

Robertson, a contender for the Republican presidential nomination in 1988, called Chavez "a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us badly."

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said. "We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

Somebody oughta take out Robertson, too, while they're at it.

This is shocking, even though I know he's a loon, still. I'm surprised anything shocks me anymore.

Bush's approval rating is down to 36%, this is lower than Nixon's rating was at the height of Watergate (39%). Going down?

I thought he was dying of cancer. Take him now, lord!!

He is aware that assasinating a head of state is illegal, right?

I'm appreshensive about what their next move might be. But then, I'm generally apprehensive.

Not if it's in the name of Jesus.

I know, a feeling of doom comes over me when I think about that. I just pray and try to believe things will get better. But I do not stick my head in the sand.

Since Robertson asked people to pray for openings on the Supreme Court, I say we all start praying for a few openings on the 700 Club leadership board.

Hooray! I say it's time to call for a national Recall Election!

Preach it!

Now he's saying he wants the troops to stay in Iraq for 4 more years. Just in time for another election....

Check out this picture of Chavez and Castro in Cuba today. Does the man ever age? I think he's about 125 now.

It occured to me a few years ago, that Robertson had gone beyond extreme conservatism into complete insanity. This man is no longer interested in teaching the Word of God, or helping people strengthen their faith (if that ever really was his "mission" in the first place)... he has his own political agenda and personal vendettas, and he has become completely and utterly corrupt.

I think people should flood every TV station that airs the 700 Club with letters of disgust that a REVEREND would call for the assassination of someone, and demand that his little political forum be taken off the air.

"Thou Shall Not Kill" indeed.

I think you might be thinking of Fred Phelps. I've never heard anything about Robertson having cancer.

I'd bet that he has undiagnosed dementia though.

No, I was definitely thinking of Robertson. I heard he had prostate cancer, but that was a few years ago. I didn't know Phelps had cancer. I hope he dies an excruciating death.
