Default Reno Review

Yesterday I decided to drive to Reno early in the day to make sure I had plenty of time before the show. When I drove there two years ago to see the Mac I probably gave myself ulcers because I was stuck in so much traffic and almost missed the show. So I got to Reno in the early afternoon and thought I would wander around town since I had nothing else to do. There was a big display of cars downtown so that was kinda cool to look at. Other than that, however, Reno sucks! The hotels are just basically casinos and that's it. There are no nice shops, nothing. I did also do a little bit of people watching since there are some interesting people there, a few too many who don't have very many teeth. Several of those people actually came up to me asking me for change or cigarettes too. So enough of Reno, I will get to the show since there were a few changes.

I will start off with the good news. I didn't witness any drunken fights like I did last time and Stevie didn't cry. The crowd was kinda weird though. Most people were sitting even in the front row. And no one really seemed to recognize her big hits until she'd actually start singing, Rhiannon being an example. But by the end of the show the crowd seemed to be really into it and lots of people were standing and cheering. After Edge of 17 and before Rock and Roll the crowd was chanting, "STEVIE!, STEVIE!, STEVIE!" I don't know if I had ever heard that before for her. I thought Stevie sounded good and she seemed playful during some of the songs like Stand Back. She was really dancing to it and did a ton of spins. She also did her cute hula dance before Dreams.

Also, Lori was there! She sang on Edge of 17 and BATB.

Now for the bad news. There was a set change. No Sorcerer. No HAEWAFY. What the **** is going on?! She doesn't have a show today so it's not like she was in a total rush to get out of there. The show didn't seem to end early anyway. And then she did the meet and greets and it took her awhile to leave. Her set list was like a greatest hits list without those songs. I think it went Dreams, Rhiannon, Stand Back, and then GDW. I was not very happy about that. I really enjoy Sorcerer.

I will end on some more good news. A bunch of us were waiting for Stevie to get in the limo and leave. After waiting for awhile Stevie actually came out before she got in the limo and waved with both hands to everyone and had a big smile on her face. It was awesome! It totally reminded me of the Red Rocks video where she does the same thing.

My journey ends with me driving home early this morning. Thanks to Tiff and Anita for hanging out with me. You guys made it more fun.

That's really weird there was no Sorcerer or HAEWAFY... What the heck is going on?

But nevertheless, I'm glad you had a great time!

Thanks for the review.... Sorry to hear they dropped those two songs... especially Has Anyone....

I bet with Lori there... and the shorten set, they are prepping for Vegas and getting the timing down for The Colosseum.

I wonder if she's dropping those songs to make room in the set for 'If Anyone Falls' in Vegas again?

Shocker about the setlist changes. I would be a pretty sad camper. I guess we will see how the next few shows go....

Thanks for the review! Glad you made it on time for this one

I was so bummed they skipped Sorcerer! I tried to get a setlist after the show to see if it was changed or if the songs were just crossed out due to some kind of time issue, but the guys onstage were busy. Hopefully both songs will be back for Albuquerque.

I liked the setup of the Events Center. It felt like a big empty airplane hangar, with just the floor and a single section of risers curving around. It looked like every seat in the house had a nice vantage point. I would definitely say it was a near sellout, too (the venue holds 7,000). Boring crowd though. The whole place sat down after the first song and pretty much stayed there until Edge of Seventeen. Except for the people who kept leaving to get drinks. And Deborah . You could tell it was mostly passersby who had just dropped in... it wasn't until she sang the chorus of dreams or actually got to the word "Rhiannon" that you started hearing people go "Ooh, I LOVE this song!"

Vocally she was right on. It's just a shame it was for a largely uninterested crowd. The Gold Dust Woman ending seemed a little longer last night; I'm not sure if it just felt that way, or if she drew it out another minute or two being that she cut two songs. Fall From Grace took me by surprise since it was not in its usual spot. It's really fun to watch Brett and Carlos jam with each other during this song and I love when Jana echoes Stevie's at the end. When she's not overpowering her or hitting slightly sharp notes, she does have a very pretty voice and complements Stevie well.

The band intros were cute. Because of the set change, Brett was not on his keyboard platform and he dashed to get back into position before Stevie got to him, thinking she hadn't realized he was on the floor. Stevie got a laugh out of it and told him he could stay put, she knew where he was, and then went over and "boxed" with him. She introduced Sharon as the Teacher Goddess who makes sure they learn all their parts (*whipcrack*) and gets upset when they aren't done right, and then turned to Sharon and added as a side note "You have to admit, you really do get mad!" and chuckled. Landslide was dedicated to the Reno audience for choosing to spend our evening with her instead of with someone else.

Finally Edge starts and people begin to stand. We weren't sure how the walk was going to work because there was a wide gap between the monitors and the stage, but Stevie leaned over and managed to reach us all anyway. I looked over to the girls at the end and Sharon, Lori (who had emerged sometime between Landslide and Egde) and Jana were cracking up over something for a good two minutes... everytime they'd look at each other they'd all start laughing again. After Edge someone came out and put the blue cloak and candelabra on the piano... the lights stayed down and for a moment there I almost thought Rock & Roll might be gone too. Thankfully not the case! Stevie came out and had some kind of exchange with Waddy, after which she shrugged her shoulders as if to say "Eh, who cares" and tossed her tambourine on the floor. She laughed and Waddy picked it up again and set it on Jimmy's drum platform, then she launched into her little Elvis dance. I also noticed she had a peacock feather in her hat tonight which I don't think was there before. Someone gave her a couple of them in Concord the other night, so, Peacock Feather Person, if you're out there, you'll be happy to know she used them.

Our lovely (ha) hotel happened to be across the street from the back parking lot of the venue, so we walked around after the show and noticed a small group of fans standing on the street waiting to see Stevie get in her limo. Security didn't mind as long as they stayed back, so we paused to watch as well. After awhile someone brought Sara and Sulamith out to the limo, and Stevie, guided by Marty, followed shortly after. Usually when I've seen her being escorted somewhere she is "in the zone" and doesn't really respond to fans, but she did turn and give us a hearty wave and blow some kisses to everyone before getting in. I took one picture of it and will post later if it's not too dark.

Nice hanging out with you again Deborah

Why the heck must she always always always do this on every single tour???? Like, the last few shows, she drops 1 or 2 songs.... it doesnt make any sense.... On the TISL tour, she dropped "Planets" and "Bombay".. on the Enchanted tour, she dropped "Stop Draggin"... on the SA tour, she dropped "Maybe Love" and "No Spoken Word"...

Stevie, would it kill you to perform two more songs for 3 or 4 more shows??? i mean, it's not as if you're trying to save your voice for another solo album that you will be working on right after the tour is over..

Well, maybe that's why they cut the price of the Vegas tickets in half- since you'll be getting only half of the setlist by then.

this is so not acceptable! I am flying to albuquerque and I want the full set list for goodness sake! But this is my 5th show this leg, I would feel more ripped off if it was the only one I was going to.

Do they still have the tourbooks>?
