Angry temp work sucks

I just need to vent a little, ok. I've been working for the same company on temp-basis for more than a year now, they keep telling me they're very happy with me and 'soon' they'll be giving me a contract, but it has to wait for this or that reason (some reasons I do understand!).
Soon the company will close for a couple of weeks because of summervacation, so I'll have to take up all my vacationdays.. just found out I don't have enough days, so I won't get pay for all of my days
Just one of those things that suck about being a temp: you get paid less, you get less vacationdays, etc. etc.
I love my work here, but with all their excuses not to give me a contract, I'm ready to say goodbye. There just isn't that much work around for me here (Economy in the north of the Netherlands is not that great) to leave though.
Grrr. #$!$#!%$@.

Alright, end rant.

Sorry to hear about your frustrations with "temp-ness". I understand your venting, and your anger. I had a temp job years ago, and I hear exactly what you are saying. It does suck...

Hopefully, even without the pay it will be enjoyable to have the time off and time to yourself. I know there are days when I just want to say to the Boss- "Look, I'll pay you $50.00 just to give me the day off today- I just don't want to be here today, at all !" (Know what I mean?)

Sometimes its not about the money -its just peace of mind.
hope this note makes you feel a little better

Aw, you're really sweet, thanks!
And yeah, it is great to have some time off though, especially after this last month, it's been very busy here. But this will cost me about 100 euros, I just calculated But maybe I can arrange it to work some extra hours after vacation to make up for that.

That sucks!
It's what I call taking advantage of the (sorry dutch word) flexwet. They can string you along for as long as they want, not fare.

Hope you have a nice vacation anyway.

I've worked more temp jobs in my lifetime than I care to admit.

And you're right -- the lack of benefits is definitely a drawback, especially here in the U.S. where there seems to be a holiday that regular employees get paid for every few weeks.

And I did get suckered into a few of those string-along situations. However, I finally decided that I wasn't gonna be crapped on, and left the jobs. Now, if I'm being considered for a temp-to-perm or long-term contract gig, I insist on the details up front. 3 month trial period? Fine. But, once the 3 months are up, they'd better make a decision, or I'm gone.

The only thing I *really* like about being a temp is that you always have the "Don't bother me with it -- bother a full-time employee with it" card to play. Not that you should play it. But it's there if you really need it. And, it seems you don't get sucked into office politics and the gossip vine that easily.

Good luck, Mari!

yeah, for 3 years if they would want to. It's not all in their advantage, temps are pretty expensive and I keep telling them that
thanks, vacation will be great, I'm going to Scotland

Hmmm I do play those cards occasionally , like the "I don't know, I'm just the temp" one.
If I knew it was easier to get another job after this one, I guess I wouldn't 've let myself get into this stringalong situation. I do write on other jobs but if you hear you're the 300th letter? That's the job situation in this country (and esp. this part of the country) right now. But part of this is my own choice to stay here, yes. *Kicks herself in the butt to put more effort into finding other jobs after vacation! *

That sucks. I think temp work is only good because it gets people in the door and gives more opportunities to more people but overall, it's like a big screw you fest. You can't get insurance or any other perks...but it is a job. I know once I quit Dominos I will be stuck doing temp work and I will feel as you do. It will get better..this is all experience which is so important.

No insurance? That would really suck Fortunately it's not that bad here, not yet anyway, because they have been reversing a lot of good social security laws here. I need insurance because of the epilepsy, it scares me a little that next year insurance will be a lot more expensive in the Netherlands. Oh I can pay it, I just need to budget my money better, I guess.
I hope you'll land yourself a good job, Janet! That, or a rich husband
