Default Boy Shot for Egging Car

http://www.theindychannel.com/news/4764313/detail.html

INDIANAPOLIS -- A prank may have cost a boy his life on Indianapolis' west side.

As many as seven teenagers were throwing eggs at cars in the 7400 block of Rockville Road about 11 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

Marion County sheriff's deputies said that after the juveniles hit one motorist in the face, the man drove off before returning with a gun, shooting one 15-year-old boy in the leg and another 17-year-old boy in the stomach.

"The victim that was shot with the non-life-threatening injuries, he actually went to a residence and called us -- called the sheriff's department," Marion County sheriff's Sgt. Michael DeHart said.

DeHart said two other teens "regrouped at some location, became worried about (another teen) they had not heard from, and returned back to the site of the shooting and found him in the bushes."

Brandon Dunson, 15, was dead when his friends found him. The other victim, Michael Dyer, 17, was treated and released.

Investigators are still looking for the shooter. He was described as a white male in his 30s, about 6 feet tall. He was driving a maroon or red late 80s Ford full size pickup truck.

James Patterson was one of the boys involved in the egg-throwing incident.

"I think they should find him (the shooter). I don't know where he is right now, but I hope he regrets what he did because he just shot a minor over some eggs," Patterson said. "He didn't have to take it to the extreme. He could've just called the cops. He didn't have to go home, get a gun and come back and shoot us."

Since we're on news stories tonight, this one really pissed me off. Almost everyone, in childhood or teenage years has done this. There was absolutely no reason to shoot and kill this kid. This happened all to close to home, as I am only about 10 minutes from where this happened.

'em at a person, Especially one driving a vehicle...What would have happened to these kids if the driver would have wrecked and died from their prank? Probably not a thing except a slap on the wrist.

I do however think the man went over the top by shooting the kidz...Should've called the PD and filed a complaint.

I can't believe someone would shoot a kid for that. Disgusting.

Wow, it's really frightening that a juvenile prank could cost kids their lives these days. It was wrong (and potentially dangerous) of the boys to throw eggs at motorists, but this individual definitely did not handle the situation as a mature adult (with a conscience) should! If he wanted to confront the boys and let them know that what they were doing was wrong, he could have stopped his car and informed them that he was calling the police on his cell phone, or something just to let them know that there would be consequences, and that someone could get hurt. Revenge is not worth someone's life.

I have to admit though, these boys must have really been hurting for something to do if throwing eggs at cars was their idea of entertainment--I've never heard of this, and I certainly never did it.

I tell you though, I CAN imagine how ANGRY I'd be if I got hit in the face with an egg while driving. Can't you?

Wow, that'll make me think next time me and my friends go out and do stupid things. I've never threw eggs at a car, but I've done some other stuff!

The kid shouldnt have been killed but I can understand the frustration of the driver. He could have been injured because of the kids prank.

This reminds me of the story when the kids threw a frozen turkey at a lady while she was driving around the time of Thanksgiving 2004. Pretty sick prank.

We never threw eggs at moving cars, but we did egg parked ones. Lots of 'em.

Sure. I'd be pissed. I sure as hell wouldn't kill 'em over it. But you bet your ass I'd be back with a cop, and chalk it up to karma catching up with me.

Ah, you mean the reason I can't take walks anymore because the road I live on goes straight through the woods? Too hot in the summer and hunters abound every other time of year. Somebody's even had the nerve to log part of it out and declare it a hunting trail.
