Talking Walmart Love Match Program

I find this incredibly hilarious

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8679873/

ROANOKE, Va. - Wal-Mart has ditched a program that helped single shoppers find love in the discount store's aisles.

Officials at Wal-Mart headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., ordered their Roanoke store to put an end to Singles Shopping, the only program of its kind at Wal-Mart's U.S. stores.

Taking a cue from Wal-Marts in Germany, the month-old program encouraged customers on Friday evenings to pick up a red bow they could place on their shopping carts as an invitation to other singles. "Flirt points" were set up in various sections of the store.

A Wal-Mart spokesman declined to comment on the reason behind the program's cancellation. But customer Dale Firebaugh, who showed up Friday night hoping to meet his match, said store employees told him several people had complained.

"I'm disappointed," said Firebaugh, 63. "Where can someone over 40 who doesn't smoke or drink or go to bars meet someone?"

That's all I can do right now.

The whole idea of that is just creepy to me. The caliber of folk (no offense) that I've seen in Walmart is pretty sub par. People wandering around like cows and lambs to the slaughter. I also do not shop at Walmart regularly, unless it's the closest thing around and I simply must have something. Of course, I guess that isnt much different or weirder than meeting people online.

Ick. I don't shop at Wal Mart. If I did, I certainly wouldn't be a lookin' for love amongst the $59 DVD players.

I have to agree - I don't think I'd be proud of meeting my significant other while shopping at Wal-Mart ...ugh.

"While swimming through the bin of $5 DVDs our hands met..." *shudder* Have you BEEN to a Wal-Mart?? It's alike a leper colony there....at ANY Wal-Mart

The scariest people are in Wal-Mart! The other night I saw this woman who was in her seventies and wearing daisy dukes and a Billabong shirt. Then I saw another woman who was in her sixties, with long gray hair and a tiny shirt that showed her midriff! I have a thing for older women, but... Wait, is there any reason to even try to explain why that was unattractive? I was wearing my Napoleon Dynamite shirt in there the other day. It says "IDIOT!" and I was thinking how appropriate it was.

I would avoid it if I could. But the next similar thing is much further away and is also more expensive. Wal-Mart makes it so people can't afford to shop for those kinds of products anywhere else.

Oh, and as you go further into more rural Louisiana, I've discovered, the Wal-Mart customers get scarier and scarier. Teeth more and more rare. I kid you not.

That's the ****ty thing about Wal-Mart - it's SO cheap - when I was in college simply couldn't afford to shop anywhere else. Luckily now I can - and do shop elsewhere..>BUT Hell-mart is the only place in town that sells this cereal that I'm all hooked on - so I still go occasionally ...

and yeah - I went to a really scary scary WAl-Mart this weekend...*shudder* - sometimes the people that shop there truly frighten me.

I hate going to Wal-Mart BUT they do have this foot scrub and lotion that I just love. I went Saturday to get more. No other stores carry it either. There really isn't one near where I live (that honor goes to Kmart) so I don't go that much. However they are building a brand new one not far at all from where I work. I can just imagine what that one is going to be like. I am sure that I will be stopping in there for something against my better judgement.

PS: I am also a bit bitter that Wal-mart was the cause of a great store that we had here in RI called Ann & Hope to go out of business. What is sad is that Sam Walton got the idea for Wal-Mart from the owners of Ann & Hope. Another RI staple called Apex was a casualty, too thanks to Wal-Mart.
