Matters are not helped by Barbra Streisand's performance. Sydney Pollack, the director, has tried to tone down her brashness & shrillness, but has hardly made a dent in that basic pugnacious charmlessness that is beyond redemption. The difficulty is that even when Miss Streisand labors to appear sensitive & vulnerable, she cannot conquer our impression that, were she to collide with a Mack truck, it is the truck that would drop dead. And, as always, I am repelled by her looks; by the receding brow & the overcompensatory nose, which, unlike Cleopatra's in Pascal's famous dictum, would not, even if it were shorter, change the face of the earth -- merely blot out a smaller part of it.

Hew missed the point, which was KKKKattie could not overcome these very faults, though she tried in an effort to make her realtionship with Hubble work, which failed. Interestingly and IMO brilliantly, though still a politicla advocate, when she interacts with Hubble in the last scene, KKKAtie was finally subdued, but not enough and in anyu event it was too late, which I think was the point of the story.

I've never seen this movie. I hear I ruined it anyway because I've seen the last scene, so there's no point in seeing the rest. Same with Scarface.

Both of them suck, imo, so consider yourself lucky.

never seen scarface, but TWWW does NOT suck. as much as I love it, I have to admit it has some scenes that tend to weaken the story, but it is a great movie and I don't think by seeing the ending you've necessarily ruined it for yourself. to me, that's not the best scene anyway...maybe the most emotional, but not the best. you should give it a viewing.

I was bored to tears watching Scarface. Babs is too obnoxious onscreen for me to really like any of her movies (though Yentl sure is campy fun). The Prince of Tides, oy. And I thought the gauze shots of Cybill on Moonlighting were too frequent! Ha!

I am not a biog fan of her later movies, but I LOVED What's Up Doc. and that ilk. As for TWWW - I thought she was good in it because she was playing a brassy broad, a roll not far from her real life.

As for Scarface - I cannot really watch movies like that because the violence gets to me. But, AP was brilliant in it - "ya womb is soooo pahluted ya can't have children"
