Cool Coldplay trying to top U2?

Whats up with Chris Martin and his ego trip about trying to become bigger than U2..? Anyone have any idea where that is coming from? It's making me not like the front man. I mean, sometimes competition is healthy, to a certain degree.

I think U2 is in a class all it's own. I don't think anyone can touch what they've done. You might not agree with that statement, but there's no arguing the fact that those four Irishmen conquered the world.

I am a fan of Coldplay, but I was also disappointed with the new album. I feel they didn't take a step forward, but they also didn't take a step back. Plowing their sound into the ground so to speak. Ah well. What the hell do I know anyway.

I don't know. Can't blame him for having a goal. I mean, why would you expect him to say, "hey, I wanna be big - but not as big as U2."

It's bad news when any band makes a statement like that...like when Oasis claimed that they were or were goign to be bigger than the Beatles...uh where are they now??

They were advertised in a commercial for their tour or something the other day on Dave FM as "a band critics are hailing as the new U2"

Ughh, they wish lol

Playing a sell out UK tour... Plus, unusually they sold out Madison Square Garden in 90 minutes.. Maybe they will get it right in America this time.. Unlike the Formula One World Championship..

U2 are the most overhyped band ever in my opinion...

They may be like the new U2, but losing the #1 in England because of a crazy frog is also something that they wont add in their 4-pages biography!

Ah - didn't know they were still around - but STILL they are not and will never be on par with The Beatles...

No they won't ever be The Beatles.

But The Beatles were overrated in my opinion too (sorry Chili!) apart from George that is...

I have a major soft spot for Oasis, and their new album is great. They're playing a few shows in the U.S. (Chicago tonight!) and they pretty much sold out big venues across the board. Mainly, I love to hear me some Noel rants, like today's:

I really dislike Coldplay. There are three or four songs of theirs that I LOVE (Yellow, The Scientist, Don't Panic)- but I find them to be so off-putting and... well, boring. I work part-time in the music department at a bookstore, and every time I put that album on to try and understand what the big ****ing deal is, I practically fall asleep before I can start to contemplate it.

I think I'm the only one who ****ing hates Coldplay (on edit: I notice Hayley is in my camp a bit). Talk about overrated, my gawd.

I hate Coldplay. Like, a whole lot. I love "In My Place" and "Trouble," but I cannot stand them other than that. I think they're vastly overrated. The fact that anyone can compare them to U2 even slightly is a ****ing joke, in my opinion. Coldplay's music just puts me asleep. It's so.. tiring.

Thumbs up

Nice thoughts from everyone. I dont know how you can dislike Bono. The guy uses his fame to try and help people across the globe. How many musicians do that? He has a genuine love of people stricken with AIDS and the hungry and dying in Africa.

I will admit, sometimes he sticks in his nose a little too deeply into politics...and it makes me wanna say "Bono, just shut up, and sing your music and make great records." But I think the man is doing what he feels led to do, and that's use his fame for the better of others.

On a side note, Bono said he thinks The Killers will be as big as U2 (or something to that effect).
