Default for computer savvy Ledgies...

I am new to Mac...just got my first in December and so far it has been hell trying to figure out where everything is and how everything works, but I love it. I've used it only for internet surfing, iPod/iTunes and managing my photos. I start grad school in August and need to get a laptop, but I'm considering getting a Windows-based laptop just because I don't know if it will frustrate me to deal with my lack of knowledge while writing papers and keeping up with my research. How difficult is the word processing software to figure out? Any suggestions, tips?

Have any of you used Tiger (some new software for Mac, not exactly sure what it is) and is it worth it?

Thanks very much!

Which word processor came with your system? iWorks? It's very self-explanatory and similar to Microsoft Word. Never had any problems with it at all, and it crashed a lot less than Word always does for me. It has two components- a really great PowerPoint esque thing for slide shows, and then Pages, the word processor component.

You can also buy MS Office for the Mac, but it's pricey and really that necessary.

Tiger is the new OS- I haven't used it, but I've heard it's really cool.

Thanks Hayley...I think I use iWorks. You've pretty much answered my questions. Thanks again.

IMO, Mac is MUCH easier for word processing than PC.
I have an older Mac that I refuse to throw away. It's SOOO much easier, at least for me.
