Default Night Of 1000 Stevie's - Did Anyone Go???

Did anyone go to this event? I was in New York City on a 3 day break, I came over from the UK and had tickets to go to the Knitting Factory.

I must say I was really disappointed and expected it to be more than it was. We got there for 8pm to be told it started at 9pm so we went and had something to eat around the corner.

When we eventually got into the venue I thought it would have been a lot bigger than I imagined. There was a main room with a stage set up for various acts, it also contained a large screen showing Stevie clips and songs and a second room with bar set up with mics etc.

I wasn't sure which room the main acts were going to be in because I only stayed a short while, I thought the whole event was poorly run, like there were no pictures/posters up of Stevie or any glamour about the event which is usually associated with Stevie.

My friend and I stayed for about two hours in which time we saw one of the acts which consisted of someone miming to Stevie songs and two girls dancing around in long dresses, not sure what they were supposed to be doing but it was silly. I thought people were supposed to actually be singing as it was battle of the Stevie's where they perform and actually sing her songs.

Maybe I didn't stay late enough and missed the whole idea of it all, I don't know, I was fascinated at all the effort people had put into dressing up though, my friend and I wore the gypsy dresses and boots and we noticed lots of people dressed like Stevie, some in hats, some with tambourines etc.

I don't think I would go again to this event and I hope anyone that went had a good time it just wasn't what I thought it would be and I had been looking forward to it for some time.

Any ledgies got any comments they want to share? Was there more to come as the evening wore on? I would be interested to know and welcome your comments.

I thought the room was too small as well.
I saw some fab costumes, though. Maybe I'll upload a few picutes in a few days.
The people that did sing seemed to choose Sara a lot. And a few of them weren't anywhere near on key.
I left before Debbie Harry came on and I'm glad I didn't stay around just to see her dance around on stage with the Christmas ornament (from the pictures I've seen, it looks like she was using the proverbial partridge in a pear tree).
My hotel room had a spectacular view of the Chrysler building so I went back to that and room service instead.
All in all, the event was fun. But I wouldn't make the trek especially for it.

Hey thanks for the comments, was really interesting to hear your views.

I did see someone dressed in white with what looked like a plastic dove playing dead on her arm, it was really stupid, I just thought they were mickey taking of Stevie, I'm sure it was all harmless fun but it looked tacky to me and I expected a more classy, upmarket event. I just really missed the glitz and glamour of it all that is usually associated with Stevie and was disappointed with the tackiness. I think Stevie would have been horrified if she were there. I hope the organisers can come up with something better next year. I'm more than willing to give them some tips.

I went in 2002 and I was't so much dissapointed as I was just introduced to the club culture of NYC.

If you look up previous pictures or articles about the event you would find is the atmosphere and acts you took in are pretty much the status quo of the Night of 1000 Stevies. There is very little class or glamour involved unless you consider the heavy make-up and done-up wigs as glamorous. You also seemed to have been expecting a much larger venue than the night club they held it at. I can tell you that when I went, the club that hosted it then was HALF the size of the current host club. It was unbearably crowded, hot, full of smoke and the scent of hairspray and sweat. I don't care much for awful drag, horrible kareoke, or lesbianic dance "tributes" to Stevie Nicks, still I found the atmosphere electric and intensely devoted to Stevie. I loved being in a roomful of worshippers such as myself of all walks and sexual persuasions. It was an experience in an of itself to be surrounded by people everywhere singing to Stevie's music being blasted through the speakers. It was fabulous, I had a great time and I would love to go back

Thanks for your comments, I agree everyone was worshipping her and maybe I should have stayed later it sounds like it took off later in the night. However, having travelled for 10 hours that day and then dashing out straight away as soon as I had showered and dressed up and my hotel reservation being changed to another hotel etc etc, by the time I got to the NOTS event I was miserably fed up.

Regards.

There were four sets of performances, beginning at about 11 p.m. Some were great (Gyspy Wild, Bella Donna), some not so great. BUT, I had an absolute blast. It was the first time I'd been in about 6 years. It's just great to be around so many other fans.

Did you get to see Debbie Harry and was it THE Debbie Harry or an imposter?
I think we left around 11ish so it must have just all started to kick off then.

Thanks for the information, much appreciated.

I don't know about anyone else, but I had a fantastic time (this was my second year at NoTS).

There were some really great acts (The best was probably Gypsy Wild, who brought the house to their knees with her rendition of "I Can't Wait"). It was cool seeing Debbie, too, even though I'm still a little bummed that she didn't actually sing (Come on, she's a SINGER!). Over all, NoTS was a great opportunity to bond with fellow fans — twirling and singing along to some awesome Stevie tunes. I suppose the people you surround yourself with at an event like this are the key to a great time. I went with my bud Mariel (xxxMx) and we met up with Brian (LiquidBlue500). We couldn't have had a better time rocking out to the great acts and meeting new Stevie friends.

Hopefully I'm not the only one who can't wait until next year's NoTS!

Awwww. So no one can tell me if she ripped down a Stevie poster and pissed on it again?

Glad you had fun, love. I checked my email when I got home this afternoon and my friend had sent me a couple pics of her holding the bird. Cracked my ass up. What I would have paid to see her and Chi Chi dance holding those suckers.

Default Night Of 1000 Stevie's - Did Anyone Go???

I was just wondering, what is it about this "Gypsy Wild" chick that everyone is reporting she's so great? Does she look like Stevie, sound like her? Is there a link I can view? Thanks!

i HAD debbie's performance recorded but it was jettisoned wednesday night in order to get BATB in its entirety. you didn't miss much. she did look fabulous, and i'm fairly certain that she was sporting a wig. a very classy wig, at that.

gypsy wild is totally fierce, and i don't use that word to describe many people. her real name is terry and i had the extreme pleasure of chatting with her for a moment before the shows got started. very nice, much more normal than I expected (take that for what you will). last year she rocked the live version of SOTM and this year was I Can't Wait. i'm predicting Stand Back for next year. oh, and she looks nothing like stevie. very inspired and very stevie-ish, but still nothing like stevie (and i don't think that's what she aims for).
