Default Any encounters with strange/weird/otherworldly/Unexplained?

Anybody had any good Bigfoot stories? Or close encounters of the third kind?

I saw a UFO when I was a little girl, in fact my whole family saw it. I'll tell more later.

LOL - I am jealous I've ALWAYS wanted to see a UFO....

---

I've never had any cool experiences like that...well here's one - I wasn't sure that this was appropriate for the ghost thread....but I think it fits here:

It was New Year's eve - probably '83 or '84 - I was only 3 or 4 - amazing that I remember some of this....and of course my mom and sister have more vivid memories...

Anyway -we were living in that house with the Velveeta Cheese cleaning ghost lol...and like I said it was NYE - so my mom and dad were out and had left my sister and I with our aunt's sister, Connie.

Well we were living in a less than desirable neighborhood (some nights our old man neighbor would just sit up all night with his rifle and watch over our house when my dad was gone...) - and all of a sudden someone started trying to break into the house...

This vagrant looking guy was banging on the windows and the doors and just yelling etc...so of course everyone is scared out of their minds....as he started pounding at the front door a - great white dog came from no where (no one had seen it before) and started attacking the guy....the dog got him cornered and the guy got into my dad's car (it wasn't locked) - and the dog would NOT let him out...any way he tried to get out - the dog would be there....growling, showing teeth etc...

Well the police finally got there and shortly after my parents got back....but the dog was absolutely no where to be found...no one in the neighborhood owned a white dog....it was weird..

I like to think someone was totally watching out for us that night

Cool story. But you forgot to add "to this day, I leave a small plate of cheese dip on my doorstep every night for our guardian angel dog in hopes he will return!"

How bout this? I'm a "Macpsychic"!! it happened again just now - I had a feeling, so I turned up the radio, sure enough, they were in the middle of a Mac triple shot. That happens all the time with me and the radio. It's enabled me to win tickets to Mac, tickets to Stevie, and the box set re release....I just had a feeling, then I turned the radio on! pretty sweet....

That is a really cool story. There is a similar story in "Small Miracles". A woman was attacked by a rapist and a dog came out of nowhere to save her and no one knew where he came from and he vanished right after saving the woman. Really strange and neat.

I doubt you have one! Just thought I'd burst your bubble. Actually if you do have one, it's like a tadpole or something.

The Small Miracles series is great to read when you feel like you've lost all hope for humanity. Perhaps I should re-read them!

Default the UFO

much of the details came from my mom because I was pretty young and tho I remember the big stuff, its the details that rounded out the event.
ok this happened in the 60's, early to mid 60's: my folks had driven to my elementary school to pick me up, I had just gotten back from a field trip (dont remember where we went). The school was on a hilltop accessible by a windy road. As we were all in the car driving away, a VERY large object appeared in the sky above the parking lot we had just left. As I recall it was shaped similar to the Goodyear Blimp and I remember reading lots of accounts where the UFO was "cigar shaped". Anyway, it hovered over the parking lot, and as we watched, it shone an intense electric blue light on the parking lot, (think of the blue flame on your gas stove, and then think of that being even more intense)
and gradually the blue changed to white, and the white was electric white, not like any white I had ever seen...in fact, the whole thing was incredible. That night, I was afraid to get up and go to the bathroom! Also, the police station was innundated by calls, apparently lots of people saw what we saw. I was sitting in the back seat, and yet I can still see in my minds eye the bigness of the object and the intensity of the light it shone on the parking lot.

Another friend, where I live now, went for a day trip up in the high lakes area in a roadless area of the mountains and said it was a typical summer day, birds singing bees buzzing etc...all of a sudden the birds stopped and there was an eerie silence, and all of a sudden a weird scream...and she felt something was watching her. She said it wasnt a mountain lion scream, or any other common forest animal....right about that time, she noticed that there were claw marks about 10-15 feet up on all the surrounding trees. I asked if it was a bear that made the marks and she didnt think so because our California Brown Bears arent that big....I dont know if they are or not, and I am not making any judgements on her story, but I will say that Ive heard stories that in the most remote parts of the Sierras, and further north up to Oregon and beyond, there have been Sasquatch sightings...in fact many of the local indian stories mention a hairy human that inhabits the forests...

Default S.i.t.u.

When I was younger, I used to read books on the unexplained, and I used to read this one guy the most, Ivan Sanderson, the founder of the Society for the Investigation of The Unexplained. He was a biologist who used to go to remote areas and get the lowdown from the locals about weird animals. For example in the jungles of South America, he tracked down a critter that looked like a giant bat but whose feet were backwards. He also investigated a critter called Chupacabra...I forget what he had to say on THAT.... He went to Africa to investigate
Quote:
Mokele Mbembe- The Mokele-mbembe is believed to be a living sauropod dinosaur that lives in the Likouala swamp region of the Republic of Congo in Africa. Literally translated, the term "mokele-mbembe" means "one who stops the flow of rivers." This hairless creature is described as possessing a very long neck and tail. Its total length is estimated to be between 16 and 32 feet. Locals are well aware of this creature as it is still sighted today.
One topic I found particularly intriguing was his description of 6 "anomalous" areas on earth, 3 in the northern hemisphere, and 3 in the southern hemisphere. an anomalous area would be a place where unexplained weather/disappearances etc happened. The Bermuda triangle is perhaps the best known of these areas. Anyway, he said if you had a globe in your hands and you drove a knitting needle thru the middle of one area in the northern hemisphere, it would come out thru the middle of an anomalous area in the southern hemisphere. So, you'd have 3 knitting needles bisecting 6 areas, north to south, evenly distributed around a third of the globe. Its an intriguing idea I think....

oh and another story: many freakish "rains" happen where instead of normal rainwater, you get a "rain" of frogs, or buttons, or slime jelly....in the 50's, in Chico, there was a "rain" of candy! (shucks and I missed it!) (note: the link below mentions a rain of stones in chico in the 20's; About the "candy rain", I got that from a large book my mother used to have on unexplained. I cant remember the title or I would post it. I will see if I cant get corroboration elsewhere)

cool link
another cool link

and here's more on those rains

D'OH! Check THIS out:

After much hunting about, some other references were unearthed. In "Mystery Airships of the 1800's" by Jerome Clark and Loren Coleman in Fate magazine of June 1973 [9], which states the following:
"An ancient obscure Irish manuscript, Speculum Regali, records an incident that supposedly occurred in the year 956 A. D.: 'There happened in the borough of Cloera, one Sunday while people were at mass, a marvel. In this town there is a church to the memory of St. Kinarus. It befell that a metal anchor was dropped from the sky, with a rope attached to it, and one of the sharp flukes caught in the wooden arch above the church door. The people rushed out of the church and saw in the sky a ship with men on board, floating at the end of the anchor cable, and they saw a man leap overboard and pull himself down the cable to the anchor as if to unhook it. "He appeared as if he were swimming in water. "The folk rushed up and tried to seize him; but the bishop forbade the people to hold the man for fear it might kill him. The man was freed and hurried up the cable to the ship, where the crew cut the rope and the ship rose and sailed away out of sight. But the anchor is in the church as a testimony to this singular occurrence.'"
And THIS:
Quote:
"The Annals of Ulster, for example, in the year AD 749 report that ships were seen in the air (some said above the monastery of Clonmacnois). Other sources report a similar episode at Teltown, during the reign of Congalach mac Maele Mithig (d. AD 956), when a ship appeared in the air above a market fair (oenach) and a member of the crew cast a spear down at a salmon below. When he came down to retrieve the spear a man on the ground took hold of him, whereupon the man from above said: 'Let me go! I'm being drowned!' Congalach ordered that the man be released and he scurried back up to his shipmates, 'who were all that time looking down, and were laughing together.' Well they might. There is no point in trying to explore the Otherworld with the apparatus and outlook of the science laboratory: flying ships are not subject to the laws of quantum mechanics."(Leslie adds that 'the actual text and translation of this episode is cited as being in Myles Dillon, 1960, "Laud Misc. 610", 'Celtica,' pp. 64-76, and Kuno Meyer, 1908, "Irish mirabilia in the Norse 'Speculum Regale,'" 'Eriu', vol. 4, part 1, pp. 1-16.')

So it was like reverse Cujo eh? Cool story and nicely told.

These two construction worker-type guys broke into our house one day while I was home from school sick, I was like 9 or 10 at the time. One of them came to the front door and rang the bell. Well, I went to the door and looked out the peep-hole and noticed that it wasn't anyone I knew so I didn't answer the door. Looks like that was the wrong thing to do because then they ran around to the back and started to pry open the back door that leads into the house through the garage. My stupid dad left the garage door open and they figured noone was home since I didn't answer the door. They went through the house and stole a bunch of stuff while I was there! They even saw me! I ran into my room and locked the door and hid in my closet what an idiot I was. Didn't know about 911 I guess! Anyway, they completely left me alone, did their business and then left. My dad came home soon thereafter. We called the police and they came over, dusted for finger-prints and asked me a bunch of questions. They never found the guys. It was really scary!
