Default Lisa Marie, Great New Album!

This Week's Hot CD: Lisa Marie Presley's 'Now What'

Now What (Capitol)

Lisa Marie Presley's sophomore effort is solid enough to prove the King's daughter is more than just a rich girl on a lark, and the strengths of her debut not a fluke -- at least before it collapses under the weight of a few too many power ballads.

Presley is assisted by well-known song doctor Linda Perry, who co-writes six of the disc's 11 tracks (not counting the uncredited Ramones cover).

Some of the cuts, like the standout "I'll Figure It Out," indicate Presley spent a lot of time with Cure records in the 1980s.

The arrangements are clever and skillfully cover the deficiencies in her voice. Her personal history and the burbling electronica also lend the cover of Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry" a real legitimacy -- although Lord knows Presley left plenty of hers on the clothesline through the years.

There's not much happening after the first half of this disc, when Perry brings more of a punch-the-clock mentality to the collaboration. (The Associated Press)

GRADE: B

I agree with most of this review. I actually just got the album and have enjoyed every song I have heard! If you liked her first album then I recommend this one as well! Her first one was great, but this is even better! Way to go LMP!

I got the new cd yesterday and am enjoying it so far. I liked the first one, so I had to see how she would progress or not. One thing that irritates me is that I often can't hear her voice well enough. It's hard to make out the lyrics. They're printed in the cd cover, but the print? Could it BE any smaller??

Default New cd rocks

I totally love this cd too. My favorite songs are Figure It Out, Turbulence, Dirty Laundry, some song with Black in the title and the hidden track after the last song. I think I like this cd better than the last one. I hope she comes to Pittsburgh this summer.

Rolling Stone gave it a less than favorable review. Although, you definitely can't always go by reviews. Anyway, I have posted the review below, if you do want to read it. If not, skip over the part below.

Two and a half stars

Lisa Marie Presley lacks serious pipes, but the daughter of the King does possess the instincts of a serious artist, one who appears reluctant to exploit her celebrity with crass product just because she can. The question is whether that will be enough: Whereas 2003's debut, To Whom It May Concern, charted largely on good will and curiosity, Now What is an honorable near miss. None of it sounds better than capable, not even co-songwriter Linda Perry's six contributions, although those tracks do possess the best melodies. Steve Jones' instantly recognizable Sex Pistols guitar riffs rescue "Idiot," but the rest of Now What errs on the atmospheric, indistinct side. Covers of the Ramones' "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow" and Don Henley's ever-timely "Dirty Laundry" only prove that Presley needs catchier, more succinct material.

I love the song "Raven" it is one she wrote for her mother! The more I listen to this album the more I love it! The song "Shine" with Pink is so beautiful, love the harmony!
