Default Taxes....

So I'm SO excited....I thought I was totally screwed this year - in regard to taxes. I had 3 different jobs in three different states in 2004, plus my student loans kicked in and they sent me some tax thing...SO I was going to wimp out and for the first time ever not do my own taxes..

Then I found out how much preparers charge...and my cheapness once again got the better of me.

I just finished (in under 1 hour mind you) doing my own taxes...supposedly mistake free...AND I'm getting $$ back - enough to buy the new computer I've been dreaming and dreaming about

----

So - how are you all doing with your taxes...anyonen else done already?

Do you do them yourself or does someone else do them for you?

I hate this time of year...but am always so glad when tax time is done...

Congrats! yay! No, I haven't done mine. I'm scared, cause I had 9 dependents for half the year.... But, I just got an evite for a post tax party my crush from last semester is having (he's an accountant)...that's probably the best tax news i can hope for.

I did my own taxes online. It was REALLY easy. I got a huge return for being a poor single mother I also did my ex's taxes and got his return too. Child support I guess Tax return time is my favorite time of year....I can actually pay my bills!!!

Oh bless your heart.

So, you get really good returns for being a single mom? I still file widowed, and will have to next year, too. I'm worried about the first year I have to file single and claim head of household.

I had my return direct deposited into my bank account online with H&R block a few weeks back. It cost me just a few dollars to do it online and was worth it considering my parents accountant charges me $80-$100. I bought an iPod with part of it

I tried to e-file but Social Security has the wrong birthdate for me so they wouldn't accept the e-file. I told them I've been filing for years and why is this suddenly brought to my attention? The rep said it was because of 9/11 they're making sure things match. So I sent SS a copy of my birth certificate and a form to fix it. That wasn't enough, they want the original, which I didn't want to send in the mail. What pisses me off about it is I was born in this city so it would be so easy for them to verify this, idiots. I swear sometimes that things are made difficult on purpose. I mean, the one I sent them was from city hall and certified and everything.

However, the state did accept it, the company I used charged $7 for the state e-file while the federal is free. I figured it was worth that. That refund was in my account within 3 days of filing. That was really cool since I have been broke due to a shopping binge. However, since the feds wouldn't accept my e-file I paper filed and still haven't received that refund. But it's only been a couple of weeks. I keep checking my account to see if it's there, no dice! It will fund my trip to Vegas nicely.

Deanna, does this mean you are going to Vegas?

Thumbs down Well...

let's say we got hosed this year on Federal tax (Received about a $150 refund) and we are getting hosed on Oklahoma State tax too (Having to pay around $50).

Ah 2005, Just 3 months old and already the worse year in my family's history since 1977 (Lost a Grandfather in April then lost my Father & his Father within a 2 week span in late '77.)

Computer? WTF? What about Vegas?

We did OK, this year, a couple grand. It's in the bank, we'll probably end up putting it toward home improvements. Used to do our own taxes, but for $40 I save myself a lot of aggravation.

Congrats, Deanna!

Congrats, Deanna!

I know I just can't do the Vegas thing - the timing is all off- and I actually owe my sister a chunk of the tax $ because she paid for a lot of thing for our NY trip up front - and I was supposed to pay her back - now I can pay her all at once rather than a little at a time

Vegas was my first thought - but there is too much I need to do around here

I get back WAY more than I paid in taxes. Actually, I made so little that I wasn't required to have federal and state taxes taken out of my check. So they just took SS and Med. I qualify for the Earned Income Credit, which, in my case, mean an automatic $2500.00 Pretty sweet considering I paid hardly any taxes!

Wow! Right on I know my mom misses the days when she was able to claim me...I think is actually the first year she isn't claiming me She's really getting it socked to her not being able to claim me.
