Default New Yawk...

So I just got back from New York City yesterday...what an adventure...

My sister and I decided to take my grandma there because she has always said it was her dream to see the Statue of Liberty. Well - we had no clue what we were in for taking an old lady who walks unbeliebably slow to the city.

First off though - the damn airline lost my luggage somewhere between Rochester and NYC - I don't know what happened - but no suitcase upon arrival in the city - and I was wearing my theater going outfit so that was so not appropriate for the rest of my stay - I had to buy new shoes and new clothes (I know...woe is me lol....having to go on a forced shopping spree...poor poor me )

Anyway - 'twas quite the good time...though my sister and I were ready to throw our grandmother into a subway tunnel by yesterday.

We did get some great knockoff purses though - she got a knock-off Burberry and I got two knock-off Gucci's lol...

The best part though was the knock off Gucci watch we found - and then upon closer investigation noticed it was actually a "GuGci" watch We laughed our asses off then bought it because it was so ridiculous...

Anyway - I'm going to need a good round of therapy now....I was seriously seriously going to just strike my grandmother.....lol...in retrospect my sister and I should have gone at this alone - ya live and learn I guess

So I'll leave you with this pearl of wisdom hidden in an anecdote...pearl is bolded:

We're walking down the street and there is a homeless woman saying, "please help me, I'm so hungry." Now - my sister and never give money to homeless people ...food or clothes or something yes, but cash, no.
so my sister happened to have a granola bar on her - so she gave it to the homeless woman who thanked her.

My grandmother says, "Why did you do that? She was smoking and could have bought food with what she spent on ciggarettes"

My sister explained that we have the means to buy many boxes of granola bars and that she had it and so gave it to someone more in need of it than she.

My grandma continues to harp on her about this damn granola bar and finally my sister says, "Well you never know if she's an angel among us..." or something like that....it's then done.

Okay - so fast forward four days- my grandma and sister are on a plane flying home and my sister says she's hungry - my grandma then says, "If you hadn't given away your granola bar you could eat that."

My sister says nothing (having to bite her tounge to not YELL at this woman...and then my grandma pipes up and says, "She wasn't an angel, angels don't smoke."

It was a trying experience - too long to write why that is here...but I"m glad to be home

Funny story. Kudos for trying to be a good granddaughter!
I especially like the "If you hadn't given away your granola bar you could eat that" comment LOL.

Nothing beats NYC. we took our kids in a few weeks ago and on the subway there was one of those people who decides to just suddenly stand up and preach on about nonsense to her captive audience. Then she walked down the car collecting $.

Always an experience.

That, is a priceless story. Funny Stuff!!

What's funny to me, is when you said....
PHP Code:
My sister and I decided to take my grandma there because she has always said it was her dream to see the Statue of Liberty. Well - we had no clue what we were in for taking an old lady who walks unbeliebably slow to the city.
....I was thinking, oh, I'm going to have to tell her what a nice grand-daughter you are. Making your grandma's dream come true. I mean, i had this visualized in my head, you walking your slow grandma, big city....that was a big effort...good job.....and then you said...

PHP Code:
....I was seriously seriously going to just strike my grandmother....
then my visualization was destroyed. I bet you'll look back on that story for years to come and get a good laugh...I did!!

Hey, DD, welcome back. Yeah...I would never take my grandma on a fun trip... It sure was nice of y'all to do so, though.

I was wondering where you'd been! Glad you had fun.

Any news on a tax refund? Is Vegas still a slim possibility?

Think positive, baby! It still could happen.

Have you read about the interview she did the other night? It's in the Stevie forum. Check it out.

This seriously made me crack up!

Sorry about your slow grandmother. Next time you and your sister should go alone and do things at your own pace!

How was the theater?

Me neither. There's no way in hell I would take her somewhere. She is so miserable and you just can never please her. My mother hasn't spoken to her for a long time because she got mad at her at Christmas. I gave Grandma a gorgeous broach and when she opened it she just made a face and avoided eye contact. My mother was so pissed. So was I, I had to leave the room. My mother told me not to buy her anything anymore. I think I'll just get her a gift certificate from now on. Of course then she'll just bug my aunt, "When are you going to take me shopping to use this gift certificate?" AAAHHHGGGGRRRRRR!!!

Deanna, YOU are the angel. "If you hadn't given that granola bar away you'd have something to eat." I can hear my grandmother saying something like that, totally!
