Lightbulb Best "Changing" Stevie story

Okay, after reading Dissention's post over on Liddy's board about Stevie and her changing stories regarding various events or song lyrics, I was trying to think of my favorite. I realized there are just sooo many good ones. For now I will just say my most favorite and let everyone else chime in if they want.
The Landslide story is a great one.

First... "It's about the Aspen skyway"

Then..."um it is about a father/daughter relationship"

Then we have "I wrote it in Aspen at the same time I wrote Rhiannon".

"It is about changing after my Dad gave me a six month deadline."

Finally almost thirty years after it was released, we have an an earthshattering moment of clarity and we hear the "truth".
"I wrote it about Lindsey, he taught me to play the guitar part I used and he inspired this song, it's Landslide."

I realize that Landslide has alot in it and it was partially inspired by her Dad's deadline and all but that is not the point. I thought it would be fun to think of some other examples of "Stevie's morphing" recollection of events.
Someone has to do Gold Dust Woman and her "quitting smoking" stories......
Oh and Stand Back! Remember at first when she said it was a "made up story about a pretend fight" or something weird like that!

It cannot all be just bad or clouded memories from drugs or booze. Some of it is just her not wanting to tell us the real story and then forgetting the little white lie she told in earlier interviews! One thing about Stevie..the girl is never boring.

I think Landslide is about Lindsey only in the matter of "I've been afraid of changing cause I built my life around you, but time makes you bolder, children get older, I'm getting older too." It was written while her and Lindsey were fighting and he was off playing with I believe the Everly Brothers, and I think she wanted to break up but was too scared of the change. The rest of Landslide, I will always contend, is about Buckingham Nicks failing and about whether she wants to continue in the music business..."can the child within my heart rise above, can I sail through the changing ocean tides, can I handle of the seasons of my life, I don't know." Can she deal with the upsets of possibly failing in music?

However, in response, I like the changing story of Gypsy. It's about returning to San Francisco, it's about Robin dying (which actually I think both are true, just in different verses). And what the Hell is that bridge about? I still can't figure it out.

Sometimes you're just not ready to tell the whole story. For example, for years she maintained that when the doctor told her doing cocaine even just once more could have killed her, she stopped. It's only been within the last few years that she admitted that she kept doing it anyway, just in smaller amounts.

I imagine that was a fact Stevie wasn't proud of, and wasn't ready to confess to the entire world.

I tend to think some of the early Mac-related & Lindsey-related recollections that are contradicted by later statements, fall under the same category. Some things she wasn't comfortable admitting or discussing in the '70s and '80s were glossed over or "prettied up" with half-truths, until she later felt more comfortable talking about them.

As far as the "changing stories" I find most interesting, I'm with Justin on the origins of "Gypsy."

Gypsy is an excellent one. At the very beginning she said something about it being about moving her mattress and then another time the Velvet Underground was San Francisco!

I agree about Landslide, hence the word "truth" in my post. I think alot of it is about her relationship with Lindsey but also their careers and the future direction of her life. with or without him. I do think he is the main inspiration for the song though.

I used to love Landslide but then one day Skcin set me straight on the difference between a "landslide" & an "avalanche".....snow covered hills are an avalanche not a landslide....a landslide is dirt.....way to go Stevie

Gold Dust Woman...she has said it was about some girls who gave her and Christine dirty looks...

Then she said it was about cocaine....one time she said she didn't know what it was about.

"It's about groupie-type ladies. About women who stand around and give me and Christine dirty looks but as soon as a guy comes in the room are overcome with smiles."

"Gold Dust Woman was a little bit about drugs ~ it was about you know keeping going. It was about cocaine. "

"I was definitely swept away about how big Fleetwood Mac was and how famous I suddenly was. Me, who couldn't buy anything before, could go in any store and buy anything I wanted. And I wondered what that would do to me on down the line. I might be a ruler, but maybe I'd be lousy lover."

yeah I took a geology class when I was 19 and was totally bummed out the day we learned about landslides...

i remember i happened to be wearing a stevie t shirt that day... then the prof started talking about landslides and i was like "hey cool!" that was also the day we learned about this guy John McPhee who wrote some famous geology book... whoever thought there could be so many FM references (or close to them) in a college geology class?
