Default Alias Question

Ok - I am a late bloomer with this show . . . but can someone either give me a brief synopsis on the background of this show or point me to somewhere where I can read about it?

I thought there was a thread around here somewhere about this show, but I couldn't find it.

I am watching the show tonight and find that without background info, I am a bit confused on the plot line.

Thanks in advance.

Sydney Bristow and Vaughn were a couple until Sydney was kidnapped and ended up missing a portion of her life (last season was all about her putting the missing pieces together to find out what happened). She comes back, finds Vaughn has moved on because he thought she was dead (only he never really got over her) and has married a woman who is a CIA agent. Turns out, the woman he married is a double agent working against him (he actually killed her in the last episode of last season).

I got board and shut it off--Alias, you dissapoint me--I can't get into you anymore

Thanks for your help!

The only issue for me is who is really her father? Jack or the older guy (sorry don't remember his name)?

Oh, where to begin? It's so complicated and complex that I couldn't explain it if I was given 24 hours to do so, dear. You could try some of the fan sites, they have VERY detailed summaries from the past three seasons.

Jack is, Sloane isn't. Sloane is Nadia's papa. They share the same mother (Irina).

Jack is her father- the one she was arguing with. The other man, Sloane, the former head of SD-6, is the father of Nadia, Sydney's half-sister. Sloane had an affair with Irina Derevko, Jack's wife, and fathered Nadia, who Sydney only learned about at the end of last season.

I'll type up an explanation of the show, Heather, but it'll take me a bit- it's long, confusing, and I'm drunk. WHEEEEEEE!

Thanks everyone! I did find a fan site that gave me some background. Good show, at least from what I have seen. But I can see how it gets complicated!

Dude, I've been sitting here trying to write a recap, and it's like impossible.

Here's my recap- this show kicks ASS. Rent the DVDs, Heather- they're soooo good. (repeat that last sentence in my drunk falsetto, and then we'll be on the same wavelength!)

Diss, what'd you think of the premiere? The first hour was... meh for me, but the second kicked ass. Or maybe it's because I've gotten progressively drunk throughout the evening. I hate the new credits, though. I loved the old ones- that was when we did the Alias dance! Not as much fun to dance to this new one.

I hate the new credits. They're taking the "sex sells" rule to new heights. I could take it with the show after the Super Bowl in season two, but not this. I think she's f*cking hot as all get out, but I just hate the new credits.

The first half hour was dull as hell, but the rest kicked major ass. But what about Katya? They left us hanging with her and I didn't like it. And how did Lauren know about the hit and the box? She said that it all tied into the grand scheme of things, so it must be bigger than Jack just putting a hit on Irina. As for why Irina tried to kill Syd, I was thinking of last season. Remember when Richard Roundtree told Vaughn that Syd and Nadia would battle to the death? It must have something to do with that.

I have an idea. Why don't I actually talk about the premiere?

I loved Rick Yune. Loved loved loved Rick Yune. It's really unfortunate that they had to kill him, because he was soooooooo good. I would've liked for him to become the new baddie, or at least part of a story arc, instead of one episode.

Vaughn and Sydney's chemistry seems to have disappeared. I mean, duh, I'm a sucker for the Sarkney subtext, it's what I cheer for, but I've never been anti-S/V. And it just wasn't there.

Am I wrong for cheering for Gigantor to KICK VAUGHN'S ASS on the train? Everytime he punched him or slammed him against the wall I cheered. I'm a bad, bad person.

Even though I knew it was coming, I still did a little dance when they did the APO reveal with the new fearsome foursome, and SLOANE and his inappropriate touching. Such a stupid name for the new SD-6, though.

I also loved me some Marshall, when they finally brought him on. The PS2? Hilarious. His robot Dixon comment? Funnier still. I also LOVED Robert Patrick Benedict- Richard from Felicity- as the dumb agent with Sydney at the beginning.

I sorta wished they hadn't made Jack kill Irina to save Sydney. I thought it was going to be like a reveal about Project Christmas type training... like Sydney's life has been the Truman Show, or something. I so hope Irina isn't really gone.

I was sorta weirded out about the way the show was shot. It was directed by Ken Olin, but it just seemed so different. Impersonal, less crisp. More spontaneous, or something, in a way that I didn't necessarily like. The photography was less lush, and a little TOO fluid for me. The editing and cuts were a little weird. Something just seemed off.

It wasn't as dumbed down as I thought it would be. I thought the exposition fairy was going to be sprinkling her dust all over the place, but it really wasn't too bad.

I take this show way too damned seriously.

To me, Katya starts to make a little more sense. I never understood why she'd be working with Irina, but would've tried to kill Syd last season, when all Irina had apparently been doing was trying to protect Sydney.

I want to know how Lauren fits into all this too.

I love Jen's new sex bangs.

I nearly forgot- my faaavrit parts were A) Vaughn burning down his house and B) Marshall eating eggs with Sark- HEE!

I hope they give Angela Bassett more to do. She could *seriously* kick ass.

Same here. That's what I've been thinking since May, so this was quite the kick in the balls tonight.

I will now mourn the loss of SpyMommy. And hate Lena Olin with every fiber of my being.

They set Katya and Jack up together, which I just loved, and now it's as if they abandoned it. What happened to Katya after she was knocked out and Lauren was killed? They didn't even say a word about her. And Isablla Rossellini has indicated she has no plans of pulling a Lena with her character, so they should utilize her as much as possible. And her flub in the bloopers on the season three DVD? Soooo adorable. "I am your sister's mother."

LOVE Angela Bassett, so I'm in total agreement. Homegirl is buff, let's see them muscles, JJ.
