Thumbs up A Very Long Engagement...

Well, last night I finally got a chance to see this film. It stars Audrey Tautou (of Amelie and Happenstance fame) as a young woman trying to find her fiancé at the end of WWI. Despite some incredibly violent scenes, the movie had a lot of humor (that was Amelie-esque, btw) and an incredible interwoven storyline. Definitely a film to check out if you don't mind reading two and a half hours of subtitles.

Also, JODIE FOSTER appears in the film for quite a few scenes as the wife of a soldier speaking fluent and impeccable French! She played her part incredibly well and IMO, she needs to speak French all the time--it softens her up

I saw it just for Foster. I love her, she's one of my favorites. Most of the reviews I read said that she'll probably get nominated for an Oscar. If so, it'll be tough to choose between her and Virginia Madsen for "Sideways" because they were both awesome.

Did you know that Foster dubs all her movies in French herself? She's been doing it for years.

No! I had no idea! I knew she was a very intelligent woman so it's no wonder she speaks fluent French but I was still surprised to see her. The entire theater (it was a packed house last night) including myself went "JODIE FOSTER?!?" when she came onto the screen. I hope she does more French films because I have to say, I think I like her acting better when she's not speaking English. I thought she came off a lot better and I don't think it was just the roll she was playing.

I believe the film was just nominated for a Golden Globe, no?

Yup.

I always thought Foster was spellbinding in every one of her movies. She's just so intelligent and quietly charismatic that you can't take our eyes off of her. Even in movies like Panic Room, she's amazing. Wish she'd make more movies, though. Both of the movies she directed were fab. I read an article once about her and Sharon Stone both being members of MENSA.

I've never seen Panic Room....

:cowers in corner:

however, what I have seen her in, she's always been pretty good in. But, I think last night she was even better. Go through the rest of your life speaking French, Jodie!!

Ugh..Sharon Stone...where's the vomit icon when you need it?

Not to mention a lot of the actors from Amelie appear in the film

I actually like her a lot, I just think that she picks the absolute worst scripts imaginable. I saw her in The Mighty and thought to myself, Wow, she can act.
