Didn't Patricia Cromwell write a book about Jack The Ripper? She had some sort of DNA evidence. Is this the same guy?

That book was FAB. Miss Cornwell gets so involved with her stories/cases that after awhile, the amount of information and facts just becomes mind-numbing. You could tell with every word that she poured her soul into it.

I LOVED the book even if it was somewhat clinical

Yeah, but it needed that approach, IMO. If it wasn't "clinical," I think it would ahve been totally disregarded and dismissed as a hack mystery novelist trying to gain respect.

I know - AND, I really liked how she readily brought out the weaker and even contrary points to her own. It was VERY well done. She spent millions of her own money reseaching it and bought several of the John Singer Sargent painting she argued was is trophies of the his victims.

Yup, it was great. One of the best true crime books I've read. I always like her Primetime specials, too. Never liked her novels, though (I'm not into those kinds of books).

I am a big fan of her fiction. She uses the same sort of clinical approach - but they are glorified page turners LOL

This is the same woman that did the Primetime special on Princess Diana as well, correct?

Yes. She's done lots of different specials, but that's the one that pops into my head immediately, too. I rather liked that one. It wasn't as sensationalistic as most other Diana specials. Like, for example, the one on NBC on Monday.

I really enjoy her specials a lot. Ugh...another one? Did you see the Harry in Africa special? I mean, no offense it's great that he's over there but did we really need an hour dedicated to that? I felt like it was too showy...not much about what he'd been doing

I remember watching the TV special about him with her. But did she say it was this same guy? The one David posted? In the special (or book) is she the one who said Jack the Ripper was a doctor guy?
I've read a couple of her books, but didn't like them much. I thought they were too long on murder and gore, and waaaaaaaay to short on mystery. That's just my preference, though. I read the one with the weird mutilated twin, who's brother lived in the bayou on a boat with a slaggy girlfriend and fed his victims to crocodiles *shudder*. too much creepy gore...

Doing in Africa, you mean? I thought it was ok, they at least showed a lot of the problems in africa. That little ten month old was heartbreaking...
