Default Just seen John Mayall in concert

..Yeah.... madformac and I just got back from a really good concert
I don't know how old he is, but he looks great! ( John, I mean..not MFM!!.. Think Gandalf the Grey with a goatee and Simon Cowells waistband..) boy can he play that harmonica as well, amazing. The Bluesbreakers themselves were excellent, esp the guitarman, but it was definately John who provided the charisma and frontman appeal.Mick Taylor did a guest appearance with 1/2 doz songs, but seemed a little out of synch on a few of them ( he was a wee bit late on one, due to a ciggy break )and Chicken Shack did the opener, they even played "I'd rather go blind" which I hadn't heard in about 25 years (haha), so that was super!!
Over all a good night entertainment, and recommended at a venue near you...
Oops...forgot, it was the last night of this tour..!

John's great...I've seen him a number of times through the years (the first being back in (as Mark Wills says) nineteen-seventy-something with Rick Vito on guitar...and the most recently at the Long Beach Blues Festival in 1998 with the Splinter Group opening for him)...always puts on a great show.

This is a photo of John & guitarist Buddy Whittington from this past May's Blues Festival at Doheny Beach in California.

John will be 71 later this month (November 29th, I think; just a few days after John McVie's)

Yeah, Buddy played very well tonight..Very slick... He played Mick Taylor off the stage completely (I think Taylor has become a little sloppy perhaps these days).

It was a reasonably small venue and they got a good reception off the crowd.

John was his usual energetic self, seems entering his seventies hasn't slowed him at all!!

John Mayall looks fantastic. We should all look so amazing at 70. I saw on his (I think it was his?) website months ago that he has a gorgeous younger wife and a son who is maybe about 10-11 now.

Funny that Chicken Shack did I'd Rather Go Blind.

Yes, it was very cool that CS sang "I'd rather go blind". I don't know, is it a song they don't always sing onstage? I surprised myself by recognising it after all these years!!! Haha...
Whats more John sang "Room to move".. another one, I remembered from years ago..good version too.I wonder if thats a standard of his at every concert?

Yeah, "Room To Move" is the closest thing John Mayall's had as a "hit" during his career...so it is usually his set closer.
