Question She didn't let the band play Rhiannon anymore...

When Mick is finishing his book, he said about Stevie that she was better than ever (remember this was circa 1990), "...although she doesn't let us play Rhiannon live anymore"

Well, yes I remember Rhiannon was not included in the Tango (live) video, but I don't know about a "decision" of not sing Rhiannon anymore (with Fleetwood Mac). Was it a voice issue? (singing Rhiannon took a huge effort to Stevie). Or was she upset about something?

When I read the book in the Enchanted boxset, about Rhiannon she says.. "..yes, always Rhiannon". As if she will never get tired of sing that song.. so I don't have a clue.

Scroll down a little on this board & read the "10-24-87" thread. For most of the touring in 1987 & 1988, Rhiannon wasn't part of the set. The reason it isn't on the Tango live video is that it wasn't performed at that point. The book manuscript was completed before the 1990 tour started.

You can't take what Stevie says literally every time any more than you can take what anybody says literally every time. Stevie dropped Rhiannon from a solo tour in 1989, & dropped it from a Fleetwood Mac tour in 1987/88. So far, though, it's been around since then: 1990, 1991, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004.

She did not sing it on the TOSOTM tour. At the Dallas show I went to, she sang "Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night" a capella and then laughed and that was it. She appeared to me to be pretty wasted for this concert though. I literally thought she might fall over.

I went to see her in Irvine. RAL tour and she started Landslide and started laughing after the first line. Then stopped.

I wanted to kill her ! It sounded really good a capella!

AAARRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wrote in my notes that evening that the band sampled from Bille Jean during one of the vamps. The funny thing is I remember hearing it - maybe someone next to me was smoking pot and I got stoned by proximity!!!!

That wasn't Irvine, that was Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa. She sang a line of "Landslide" just to tease. My usual habit at that point was to buy a friend's way in so that she could record the show for me on my Sony Walkman recorder. I think I still have my tape of this one somewhere. If I find it, I'll rip just the "Landslide" moment to MP3.

That was one of the nights Stevie wore her feather headgear onstage on that tour. That was an expensive concertgoing summer for me, what with all the shows in the state (Costa Mesa, Los Angeles, Long Beach, San Diego, Fresno, Mountain View, Sacramento). In Costa Mesa, Stevie was a little ill with bronchitis or sinus problems or something, so they didn't let anyone backstage. She had to lie down & rest in solitude right after the show, before hitting the road.

It was a pretty good performance that night, but her show at the Forum the next month wiped the floor with it.

"Billie Jean" at Pacific? I don't remember that, but Stevie's mic started malfunctioning for "Rhiannon," so the band broke it down & a techie had to come out onstage to try to fix the mic or the mic stand or something, & Stevie took the mic off the mic stand & got down on her haunches, holding the mic & ad-libbing that old R&B song "I Put a Spell on You," pointing playfully at the somewhat embarrassed tech guy.

The Billie Jean was in Dallas at the Starplex. It was the Bump Bump - - Bamp Bamp -- Bump Bump -- Bamp Bamp part. Was anyone else there?

at Jones Beach she gave us a preview of "whole lotta trouble": after "stand back" she was walking off stage and as she passed one of the girls' mics, she stopped and sang "well this could be a whole lotta trouble for YOU!"

there was also a sample of "i heard it through the grapevine" during "rhiannon" at Alpine Valley, WI: during the instrumental part she just chimes in "well we heard it....through....the grapevine." then she immediately says "you started it..." not sure who she was talking to. then she goes on to introduce the band. what an odd moment to do that, but she had forgotten to earlier.

Right around 1989-90 she said in a radio show that "it wouldn't be fair to burn her out" so she staggers "rhiannon"....she/they "do it on one tour and not the next."

that rule didn't last too long.

Maybe Stevie wouldn't "let" Bekka sing Rhiannon anymore.

She was out of her gourd at that show, I think. I thought that was the Dallas '86 show. Now I'm going to have to listen to that one again.
