Default Tom Petty songs you'd like to hear Stevie sing

Alright...I know covering Tom is not something Stevie needs to be talked into, but I still obsess over wanting to hear her do still more of his songs. Currently, the song topping the list is Hard On Me from Wildflowers (one of the greatest albums ever made period, IMO).

Which ones would you like to hear Stevie do?

(I know a lot of you will say "nothing...I only want to hear original stuff from Stevie at this point". But don't take it too seriously...this is just a tidbit of Stevie Fantasyland.)

IMO Stevie does do too many Tom songs. For somebody who wants the world to appreciate her writing, I could have done without her opening on TISL with SDMHA and using INTK as an encore. Waddy said on the Q & A that he argued for Bella Donna as the opener but it didn't work out. That would have been amazing.

That having been said, I think I could like Stevie recording Breakdown (with more vocals/lyrics) and Refugee, but my first choice would be Into The Great Wide Open. It has a Stevie kind of vibe & her mature voice would handle it well.

Mary jane's Last Dance hehe, cause that's my fave song of his (even though the vid terrified me as a kid). And I Won't Back Down, I think that's what it's called

"Southern Accents". And then "Spike". Together.

Uhm... None. I do like her version of INTK, but don't get me started on Free Fallin'.

I've always pictured her doing "Don't Do Me Like That" for some reason.

Ooohh, cool topic. I've been bellowing for -- literally -- decades about how I've wanted Stevie to perform "What Are You Doing In My Life" onstage. I think it's too late now, though, because personally I don't think she has the voice for it any more.

So instead of new covers of TP songs, I'd much rather have great audio/video of all her classic guest appearances with TP & the Heartbreakers:

26 June 1981 San Francisco Cow Palace
30 June 1981 New Jersey Meadowlands
03 July 1981 New Jersey Meadowlands
18 Sept 1981 Irvine Meadows
19 Sept 1981 Irvine Meadows
02 Oct 1981 Lakeland Civic Center
06 Oct 1981 St. Petersburg
08 Oct 1981 Gainesville O'Connell Center
A show in Boston 1981 that Patti attended
30 July 1985 Tempe Compton Terrace

All told, she gave a lot of classic performances as an "honorary Heartbreaker" & sang numerous TP songs. How about a DVD box set of all these cameos titled "Blond on Blonde: Petty & Nicks In Concert"?

I think the tempo is my biggest gripe with her version. The original is more fast-paced, whereas Stevie's is incredibly slow. I always thought that the tempo of Petty's version added so much to the song. And the whole "belting" thing she does near the end is kind of overdramatic, in my opinion. I like the simplicity of the original.

That would have been amazing. I was a little shocked that she opened the TISL set with SDMHA, but I thought it might be her usual opener since I had never seen her live before that. Is GDW her usual solo tour opener? Anyway, I would absolutely melt if she did Belladonna live, I'll save that thought for her next solo tour .

If Stevie were to do yet another Tom Petty song I would choose "You Wreck Me." I'd love to hear Stevie really belt that one out, although I don't know what she would do with lines like, "I'll be the boy, in the cordoroy pants"...

I really like that part, and it makes it more unique to Stevie. She makes it her own when she adds those signature vocal flourishes like that, and it gives the song an extra little umph of emotion that's lacking in the rest of the vocal.

I've done that song, and I'm a girl . I just change it to "You be the boy in the courdoroy pants, I'll be the girl at the highschool dance". Great song.

No, it's usually Outside the Rain/Dreams. I always thought it should have been Outside the Rain/Sable On Blonde, though.

I always thought with all of the songs she has to choose from, she should drop Outside The Rain completely. So many of her songs would be great openers.
