WASHINGTON, June 25 - Suddenly, Adolf Hitler has become a bit player in the 2004 presidential campaign. President Bush's campaign Web site is featuring an advertisement casting Senator John Kerry and his allies as a "coalition of the wild-eyed," blending clips of former Vice President Al Gore, former Gov. Howard Dean of Vermont and the filmmaker Michael Moore shouting about Mr. Bush. Interspersed twice are images of a shouting Hitler, drawn from a Web spot that MoveOn.org, the Internet advocacy group that runs anti-Bush advertisements, briefly posted months ago in a contest for advertisements about the president. MoveOn.org quickly removed the advertisement from its site. But it resurfaces in the Bush-Cheney campaign's compendium of clips, and the result appears to liken Mr. Gore's and Mr. Dean's shouting to Hitler's. Mary Beth Cahill, Mr. Kerry's campaign manager, sent out a fund-raising letter on Friday accusing the Bush campaign of "losing any last sense of decency" by posting the new advertisement. "Bizarrely, and without explanation, the ad places Adolf Hitler among those faces," Ms. Cahill's letter said, demanding that the Bush-Cheney campaign pull the spot. "The use of Adolf Hitler by any campaign, politician or party is simply wrong," she wrote. Kerry campaign officials said that MoveOn.org operated independently and that the campaign had nothing to do with the posting of the Hitler images on MoveOn.org's Web site. The Bush campaign's Web video was sent electronically to the six million people on its e-mail list. Nicolle Devenish, a spokeswoman for the Bush campaign, said, "We share Senator Kerry's outrage with what Kerry's surrogates created in the form of a Web video that was on MoveOn.org's web site." "The video was created to show our supporters what we're up against,'' Ms. Devenish said. "Team Kerry is an angry, rage-filled group that offers no positive vision for America." The videos that had featured Hitler on the MoveOn.org Web site were posted in January, when operatives in both major parties thought Mr. Dean would be the Democrats' presidential nominee. They were posted along with more than 1,500 submissions to a contest soliciting homemade advertisements critical of Mr. Bush. They were soon removed, with Wes Boyd, a MoveOn.org founder, saying they were in "poor taste." The advertisement on the Bush-Cheney Web site, georgewbush.com, opens with a close-up image of Mr. Gore shouting, "How dare they drag the good name of the United States of America through the mud of Saddam Hussein's torture prison." A fuzzy image of Hitler with the MoveOn.org logotype visible immediately follows, along with shouts of "Sieg Heil." Mr. Dean is then shown shouting, "I want my country back," followed by brief clips of Mr. Moore and Representative Richard A. Gephardt of Missouri and then Hitler again, though the MoveOn.org source is not shown this time. Mr. Gore is immediately shown again, shouting that Mr. Bush had "betrayed this country." Finally comes Mr. Kerry, denouncing the president. The advertisement ends with upbeat music and the written message "This is not a time for pessimism and rage." |

![]() Essentially, Dissention and Goldie people scream W is just like Hitler and cite to his world aggression, the Patriot Act, Gitmo, and other similar things. To them, that and a few other things are enough of a connection to justify saying W is like Hitler. The opposition, who, like me cannot stand W but hate Hitler worse, point out W is not rounding up Jews and gays and then shipping them off to perform experiments on them, make lamp shades out of their foreskin, and then starve and gas or bake them - AND - W has not to my knowledge claimed Iraq or Afganistan as part of the US (at least yet ). Moreover, a significant number of Democrat's voted for the Patriot Act. So, if you gonna call a spade a spade IMO you must include all players And - I am unsure of anyone being arrested and then killed for saying their opinion. Hitler did that. So far, W has not. I guess it just depends on how you look at it.In the end, W is a lying jerk and I hope he does not get reelected. I think he forced the war in Iraq by making up evidence regarding the exigent nature of the threat when he realized the threat, which was real according the world's authorities, was not enough. That is an autrocity I cannot live with. He just is in no way anything approaching Hitler, even though saying so makes for good copy I mean Hitler would have just invaded Iraq and made no pretense afterward. But, that is my opinion and other's differ ![]() Last edited by strandinthewind; 06-26-2004 at 09:06 PM.. |

No prob. In fact, I just re read my post above. I hope I came off as explaining and not a jerk - If I did Do not fret, the use of Hitler has entered the vernacular. I mean we used to call a nun at my hight school in the early 80's "Hitler in a Habit" Although she was a tough woman, she was hardly a Hitler So, I think people are used to that def. of Hitler Then, there was "Springtime for Hitler" from Mel Brooks and his personal portrayal of Hitler in the remake of "To be or not to be" - both of which are brilliant ![]() Last edited by strandinthewind; 06-26-2004 at 09:57 PM.. |

So, he is saying that although we may have done a little torture in Iraq and perhaps elsewhere, it was not THAT bad when comapred to the ovens of Hitler. I mean COME ON!
But, Rove is smart, he knows he needs the base not to stray and they have not hope of any self -respecting Democrat. So, the commerical plays to that, esp. the light hearted and fell good music at the end - BLECHHH! |

We never said he resembled Hitler when it came to killing people (although one could make the case that he's murdering thousands for nothing in Iraq simply to gain popularity and money...), we said he resembled Hitler when it come to his thirst for power and disdain for everyone else who isn't him.
