What are your top picks for song that have and have not transferred well to the stage (past or present)?
Just a handful of my picks (because, even though I started this, these things stress me out too much! ).....Have: GYOW (any tour) World Turning (when Mick did the solo with a real drum) Why (w/S&L...breathtaking!) Silver Springs Eyes Of The World (any tour, but especially now) Oh Daddy Sisters Of The Moon Blue Letter ISA Have not: Gypsy (any tour, but I like it pretty well SN solo at US Fest or WH Tour) YMLF (moreso in the later years) ...Thought I had more "have nots", but can't think of them right now! ![]() |

Ah, the age-old divide between the Haves and the Have-Nots.
HAVES: The Chain <--- (Invariably much better live than the original album version IMO) Beautiful Child Silver Springs IKINW EOTW WTWCT (You so crazy, Jake.) HAVE NOT: Nothing comes to mind. I'm sure there's a few.

Have: Rhiannon (1975-76 especially well, 1977-80 pretty well, 1982 alright, 1987-90 (see below), 1997-Present - back to alright. Landslide Say You Love Me (always pretty good live but exceptionally good in '97) I'm So Afraid Blue Letter Go Your Own Way Gold Dust Woman The Chain You Make Loving Fun Don't Stop Second Hand News Songbird Tusk IKINW Sisters of the Moon Angel Beautiful Child WMYTYTO Think About Me Not That Funny Sara (1980, 2004 - I did NOT like the '82 version of this song regardless of people telling me it's the same arrangement as the Tusk tour...it's totally different sounding, and the arrangement is NOT the same, but enough of that. Oh, and the late 80's version was pretty lousy) The Farmer's Daughter Eyes of the World Love in Store Little Lies Everywhere (I always thought live Everywhere kicked studio Everywhere's behind) Big Love (still waiting for the full-band version of this one) Isn't it Midnight In the Back of My Mind Save Me Silver Springs Red Rover WTWCT Running Through the Garden Say Goodbye Peacekeeper (it's not great, but it t Have nots: World Turning ( I hate the solo, just hate it ...Mick needs to be behind the drums) Rhiannon (1987-90) Dreams Oh Daddy (it got better on The Dance tour, but I thought it really lumbered during the earlier tours) That's Enough for Me Sara (Post 1980 until it stopped being played until 2004) Gypsy Hold Me Destiny Rules Alright, that's all I have now...I think I was supposed to just do top picks and I kinda screwed that up! |

Have:
The Chain Go Your Own Way Isn't It Midnight Rhiannon Why Sisters Of The Moon Stand Back (counting it b/c FM has done it for 4 tours in a row) World Turning (I like drum solo...yeah I guess I'm in the minority )Tusk I'm So Afraid (A big improvement from the album version) What Makes You Think You're The One I Know I'm Not Wrong Gold Dust Woman (Tho I still prefer the album version) Oh Daddy Have Not: Everywhere Little Lies Hold Me Save Me A Place Gypsy Songbird (Yes, I said Songbird. The album version is waaaay better) What's The World Coming To Somewhere in the middle: Don't Stop (Some versions I liked, while others I hated) Say You Love Me (It was mediocre from 1975-1987, but I hate the Dance version) Peacekeeper (It was good when I saw it in person, the bootlegs make it sound terrible) I put so many Chris songs down for "have not", because IMO her music tranfered better in the studio. It never sounded as perfect live. Some of hers did make the "have" list, so I wasnt completely against Christine live. Perhaps the way her songs transfered live was due to her unwillingness to tour in the first place, and thus was a result of giving a half-hearted performance? IDK, it doesn't seem that way, but still. Last edited by ryan8472; 05-28-2004 at 02:42 PM.. |

Have:
Beautiful Child (one of the best live songs I've ever heard) Come Eyes of the World Big Love What's the World Coming To Goodbye Baby Have Not: DESTINY RULES (it's *terrible* live!!!!!!) Gypsy (I always thought it was dull live, unless she really sang it with passion) Say You Will (the dance is cute, but the song is also dull live) Peacekeeper (Ugh.)

Have:
Green Manalishi Future Games Spare Me A Little Of Your Love Hypnotized Why Bermuda Triangle Blue Letter Say You Love Me Go Your Own Way You Make Loving Fun Songbird Over And Over Save Me A Place(This was much better live with Christine & Stevie harmonies, although I like the album version, too.) Brown Eyes Angel What Makes You Think You're The One Tusk Love In Store Eyes Of The World(This is way better live than the album version.) Gypsy Everywhere Little Lies Isn't It Midnight Stop Messin' Around(the BTM line-up) Tear It Up(the BTM line-up) In The Back Of My Mind Have Not: World Turning(especially during the Tango & BTM tours-way too long) I'm So Afraid(I like the album version ALOT more. It's boring live.) Dreams Not That Funny(the worst live Fleetwood Mac song ever) Hold Me(I LOVE the album version, one of my favorites. It just isn't as good live.) I think most of their songs transfer well, so I will just name some I think do not :
Gypsy (except for the acoustic version from the AHI 2000 Show) WTWCT Peackeeper Dreams (its ok for the casual fans, but it seems to lack something post 1982) Love in Store (i think it didnt sound so well live, the vocals just seemed - off) Little Lies Seven Wonders Stevie solo : Bombay Sapphires (this was horrendous live IMO) Planets of the Universe (the reason it didnt work IMO was because she wasnt very enthusiastic about it) Sorcerer (boring live) Too Far From Texas (ok so you get the point I didnt like how they did most of her new songs in 2001! lol)

The music rocked, it was Stevie that seemed off on that song. Some of the guitar solos at the end were blistering; fantastic!

My picks for sounding good are also my picks for not sounding good. It all depends on how old the players were, which tour, &c. For me, several songs have taken a downturn since the onset of the digital tours: for example, The Chain sounded great a couple of decades ago, but is just a lethargic, turgid soup nowadays. Same with Gold Dust Woman & Rhiannon. But Don't Stop probably ranks as my least favorite as it has aged. It used to be a ball-busting blues shuffle; now it's an anthemic singalong. Chris reminded me of one I didn't like the one time they did it: Love in Store. The organ was inappropriate.

Agreed. Also to add to the "Have Nots": Everywhere, ISA (because of the too long guitar solo) and Over and Over (snooze, yawn). Haves: The Chain Silver Springs Gold Dust Woman Rhiannon Sisters of The Moon Go Your Own Way (when it's done right and raw, however, recently it just sounds like an oldies revival) Don't Let me Down Again (I know, I know, B/N, but F.M. does it GRRREAT!) Second Hand News Green Manalishi Say You Love Me Tusk Sara (no matter what Stevie says!) Big Love (acoustic version) Angel
