What's your favorite version of Rumours and why?

The choices:

LP version: SHN, Dreams, NGBA, Don't Stop, GYOW, Songbird **potty/beer break** The Chain, YMLF, IDWK, Oh Daddy, GDW

Original CD release: SHN, Dreams, NGBA, Don't Stop, GYOW, Songbird, The Chain, YMLF, IDWK, Oh Daddy, GDW

DVD-A: SHN, Dreams, NGBA, Don't Stop, GYOW, Silver Springs, The Chain, YMLF, IDWK, Oh Daddy, GDW, Songbird

2004 CD re-issue (ignore the bonus CD factor...that would too obviously move this one ahead): SHN, Dreams, NGBA, Don't Stop, GYOW, Songbird, Silver Springs, The Chain, YMLF, IDWK, Oh Daddy, GDW,

Now, I included the sequencing of each because that is a factor for me (and I'm sure others), and I know some people do prefer the album w/o Silver Springs. I have to say the DVD-A, in the end, is my fave. You can't beat SS following GYOW, IMO. Plus, all those juicy parts throughout the album you can hear only on this one. I especially love the enhancement of all the harmonies in YMLF, in particularly Stevie's low ones at the end in the word "you" in the repeated "you, you make lovin' fun". My one hesitation in picking this version as my fave is NGBA. I love getting to hear this version with the extra guitar, but I prefer the simpler version in the context of the album. {Though it is not a factor here, I do prefer the versions of SS (Chain boxset or Dance) where you cannot hear Stevie/Stevie does not go up a note at the end of "...but you won't forget me" and "...you would not let me".}

My first choice would be the LP version. The original is still the best, in my opinion. The DVD-audio would be my second choice, just because of the incredible sound quality. I also like the bonus disc from the new re-issue.

You forgot the cassette version. It's totally butchered. I think Songbird opens the album.

Anyway, my fave is the original vinyl.

How weird that I grew up during the Cassette Era, and I don't even think about them anymore! Sorry everyone...but I doubt that'd be anyone's first choice anyway. Unless they have a sick sense of humor.

As far as running order goes (and I think it's a very important factor), I would pick the first version... yes, without "Silver Springs". Unfortunately, it wasn't part of the original album and it should have been a "bonus track" in the next releases... jmho.

But because of audio issues, the 2004 edition is the best of the bunch.

I have it... it's not quite that butchered. They simply switched places for "I Don't Want To Know" and "Second Hand News."

The one I have is totally different! Songbird opens it, I Don't Want To Know ends it, and the rest are all mixed up.

I love my original CD because the end of GDW is complete. I mean it ends with a final drums/bass sound. The cassette and the DVD audio ends the song with a gradual lower sound.

Can't remember how it ends in the 2004 issue.

I never had the vynil LP, I remember holding it at the stores, but I already had the tape so I was waiting for the CD. I miss those days.

Yes!! I cannot get over this running order (in a good way)!!!

In gushing over harmonies heard on the DVD-A, I should have also mentioned Oh Daddy...holy sh*t when it comes to Stevie's low ones in this song!!! Though Stevie is an incredible harmony singer in every way, shape, and form, she kills me with the lower harmonies (Farmer's Daughter is another mind-blower in this department)! Sure, we'll never hear IDWK live because Stevie could not sing that high night after night anymore, but because of my love for these low harmonies I can deal (and I'm even going through an absolute IDWK obsession! ).
