Default Misheard Lyrics

This afternoon I was checking out some Stevie sites and stumbled across the lyric interpretations on Buckinghamnicks.net . I clicked onto Kick It and found out that I didn't really know the words to this song (which I love)!

"Well I'm waited for in Egypt"?? Huh? I always thought she said
"Well I'm waiting for a kneejerk"! I thought she was singing about doing something and then waiting for a backlash or something.

Another one I intially had mistaken was in Stand Back. "Like a willow, I can bend" I thought it was "I can't bend" even though that makes no sense.

Looking at some other lyrics I think I'll have to go through them all again and learn the correct ones. Last example: Talk To Me. The lyrics are

"Well, is it all that hard
Is it all that tough
Now I've shown you all my cards now isn't that enough
You can hide your hurt
But, there's something you can do" but I'm hearing

"If I seem all that hard
Is it all that tough
Now I showed you, Well my God! Well isn't that enough
You can have your fun
But, there's something you can't do"

I thought I knew most, if not all, of Stevie's lyrics but I guess not. Anyone else have any interesting lyrics they've misheard?

Nick

Nick,

I also thought this was the lyric for years. One night I was listening to it & it just hit me that I had been singing it wrong the whole time.

The "I've shown you all my cards..." line is one of my favorites.

I used to think "I'm just second hand news" was "I'm YOUR second hand news"

I've always heard that this is a reference to 12-step addiction recovery programs. Something like "You have to get over your denial (i.e. The Nile) before you can get over your addiction." I think the main focus of the song is about addiction to love/relationships, but I guess Stevie snuck it in there.

There have been quite a few misheard lyrics threads in the past few months, in case you missed them. Do a Stevie-forum search - some of them are downright hilarious!!

LOL...wow...I also thought those were the words for the longest time haha..good to know I wasn't the only one.

There have been many lyrics I have misheard through the years...pretty much all the ones already mentioned...and I can't think of other more specific ones...of my own anyway:

My sister always thought the line in Gypsy was, "She was just a witch...she was just a witch.." lol...

And my ex-boyfriend's mother upon hearing Rhiannon on the radio one day called him and asked if the reason I like FM so much is because they have a song with my name in it...she thought instead of "Rhiannon..." they were singing "Deanna..." lol...I love that misheard lyric
